This is a little different than past Chubby stuff. This hit me and it's serious and deep. This is really refined and not the scrappy, rough blues that Chubby is famous for. A lot of this sounds in the vein of ballads, his singing is always focused like he's trying to convey a message and the CD flows like one theme. Not the standard blues progressions on this CD which he's famous for and so good at and the guitar keeps more or less one certain sound throughout which is unusual for a Popa Chubby recording. First thing I noticed is that the band is super tight and this is the best drumming he's ever had on an album. Fantastic. The songwriting is top-notch. The lyrics are something out of poetry - they are classic like the old Pop bands were famous for. I almost thought Chubby had become born again after listening to the lyrics because they are not down and dirty and street. "Take a pound of nails, a pound of flesh, a hammer for my heart, nail me up to the bloody cross, tear my soul apart...". "The Future" is a spoken ballad about "repenting": "You don't know me from the wind, You never did, You never will, I'm the living Jew that wrote the Bible". Popa's vocals are subdued at times, controlled, serious, forceful and his voice has even gotten better - it sings beautifully like a guitar. Great guitar playing as usual though not as much time spent on soloing like past CDs. The overall sound is tighter and this is produced really well. This is really classic songwriting and emoting like you've rarely heard in a long time. A breath of fresh air.

This is another outstanding Cd from guitar slinger/singer Popa Chubby. A great variety of songs here. However, the one which stood out for me was "A love that will not die" (song seven). It is a blues rock piece played over a chord progression from the slow movement to Beethoven's seventh symphony (hence the seventh song on the album?). Great stuff!! I await his next CD.

Back to New York is my fourth Album by Theodore Joseph " Ted " Horowitz and another great Album with different styles of Blues Rock and nice whammy guitar solos on some tracks with catchy songs who was influence by some of the worlds best like Jimi Hendrix & Cream and the only negative thing I can say about this Album some songs are better recorderd than others with more volume bass , tone and only because I really like the sound of his lead guitar solos I'm rating Back To New York City a Five .

You, who know Popa Chubby works are right to expect that the Man delivers! It is a very solid album with the signature licks and lyrics. There is the most appreciated "take no prisoners" blues-rock attitude I like so much in Popa Chubby's music.
