It's a little hard for me to rate this as a novel because so much of it was the healing of the marriage between Trent and Laura. So as a novel, at times, it felt a little disjointed and not cohesive. One definitely has to have read the rest of the series to get the most out if this book. But for what it is, which is basically the healing of a broken marriage, it's pretty good.

Where this book shines is the realism of what HEA really means without getting maudlin. Sure, Trent and Laura hook up relatively quickly in spite of the divorce threat hanging over them but even after they are intimate, the underlying problems between them don't magically disappear and they still work through those issues throughout the book.

It was nice to check in with past characters Carponti, Nicole, Shane and Jen. It seems like Iaconelli is next in the series to get a book and I'll probably read that in the hopes of getting a little bit more of my favourite characters.

This book was pretty steamy but at the same time incredible emotional from the standpoint of finding out how tough emotionally the military is not just on the soldiers themselves, but also on their families and their relationships with people. The heroes aren't just the ones who go to war but those they leave behind as well.

We finally get Laura and Trent’s story!

This one wasn’t as emotional for me as the other Jessica Scott books (I think if it was, I’d still be crying). But, it’s very emotional for the characters. It’s a story about love, redemption, and rekindling the romance when you think it’s lost. It’s about how, despite the honor, loyalty, and love found in fighting for one’s country, those things might go missing or diminish in one’s personal life. It’s about coming home. It’s about balancing work and family. It’s about knowing when you need help and that asking for help is not a weakness.

The thing I love about Jessica’s books is they’re never wrapped up with a pretty bow. Yes, there’s always a HEA. But, it’s not a we’re-together-this-is-the-end-of-the-story HEA. There’s still work ahead which means….MORE BOOKS! ;P

Captain Trent Davilla let himself run away from what he loved and be deployed repeatedly to avoid his family. He was not sure how he would handle life now that choices were made that sent him back to his wife and kids, but the realization that his mistakes and choices at home needed to be corrected to save those he loved the most and have his wife back in his arms.

While Trent is battling false accusations about his ability to command his troops and to restore his reputation he has decided his wife, Laura is going to be his first thought every morning and what he dreams about at night. Convincing her to take him back into the familiar fold will not be easy because she learned all too well that she could take care of herself without him, enough to try and divorce his sorry butt. It is lucky for Trent that Laura still loves him so sincerely that she is willing to work on the problems they have and try to rebuild, again. This is no easy maneuver for Trent as he has to prove himself worthy of her love and affection or this is his last tour of duty as her husband.

Trent has so much military baggage to unload before he faces the charges against him that when he is forced to see a psychiatrist. His first reaction is no way, but the time spent talking about what he saw and had to do to survive is making him realize that assimilating back into civilian life is not easy when you have taken in so much violence. Every day draws him closer to being a stand up husband, hands on father to his kids and those stinky gerbils, and face the fact that maybe he has to choose a life outside of the military in order to keep everything he has glued together.

5 ‘made me cry, made me sigh, made me believe that with love, anything is possible’ stars!

Back to You is the third book in Jessica Scott’s Coming Home series. It follows the story of Trent and Laura and the slow disintegration of their marriage due to Trent’s love affair with his other wife, the Army. I was dreading this story with as much passion as I was needing it. Dreading it because of the allegations against Trent, and desperately needing it because, deep down, I knew those allegations couldn't be true, and I needed to see it play out. And play out, right before our eyes, it did.

My review…

I have to tell you, this is one of the best 'one more chance' and military romances I’ve ever read. It gutted me at the same time it uplifted me. It broke my heart while making me fall in love. Start to finish I was completely invested in Trent and Laura’s happiness, cheering them on one minute and crying for them the next. Ms. Scott did a brilliant job of showing us a different side to the casualties of war – the slow, painful, emotional death of a military family. But the real beauty of this story is watching these two amazing people refuse to give up on each other, or themselves, and work to put their family back together again. Their happily ever after was hard earned and well deserved!

The bottom line…

Don’t waste time reading reviews of these books, just buy the books and enjoy the time you spend reading them! Seriously, just do it. But I strongly recommend they be read in order so you know exactly what has taken place, and why Back to You is such a beautiful love story!

My thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishers) and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this amazing story in exchange for an honest review.
