I bought this for my six-year-old daughter because I had fashion plates when I was a kid. This is a very poor knockoff of the classic toy. The classic worked, and was good for hours of fun. Using this version, the rubbings are barely visible, and the paper slides and the plates move around as you try to make them. Don't waste your money on this garbage.

I had great memories of this toy from my own childhood so bought it for my 4 year old daughter. It is very difficult to get a good outline (especially of the face) using the included crayons. Also it is difficult to close the cover that keeps the paper in place. Perhaps an older child would be able to play with this independently but I found myself doing most of this for my daughter as she would get frustrated with the above mentioned issues. Still fun but not quite what I was hoping for.

I remember a toy like this when I was young except there were more subjects to design than just women's clothing. It kept me busy for hours. This toy is more organized and has many options for girls to fantasize about. The ability to outline the figure isn't as clear as it seems but I think with a little practice a 6+ yo could really spend a lot of time imagining.

I used to have a Barbie Fashion, and this is a cheap imitation. They don't make it like they used to back in the 80's. This is made by another company, not Mattel. The Barbie one was easier to use, the drawings were prettier. The plates on this one don't stay, and the crayon holder isn't as easy to use. The colored pencils that came with the thing were almost all the same colors. My 7 yr-old daughter, who loves to draw, doesn't play with it for more than 5 minutes.

I bought this for my niece because she loves fashion and I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE Fashion Plates. This is a VERY poor knock off of the original great product. The plates don't fit properly, the head is cut off at the top and the indentions are not raised high enough so you get the crayon all over the picture instead of a nice clean print. Avoid this purchase.

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter because I had one when I was about 4 and remember playing with it for hours. I have not had any problems with the paper sliding around or the plates not staying put. I find the outline comes out pretty good with the crayon provided. The outfits are actually the same as the ones I remember as a kid (for better or for worse!). I did have to help my daughter with this activity the first 5 or 6 times she used it and found it enjoyable to do together. Now, as she has had it going on a year, she is pretty independent with it.
I agree with some other posters who say it does not seem as sturdy as the one from the days of old. But the fun of this toy was limited to me in those days because of what always seemed like a shortage of blank paper to use back then. Nowadays we always have plenty of that!!

Extremely disappointed in the quality, not sure if it's going to even work, I'm afraid my daughter will be disappointed at this toy.

This is a fun toy and my six-year-old daughter and I can spend some quality time designing and coloring the images. This set is very similar to the Fashion Plates sets from the 1980s. If there is one thing they could improve on it is that there could be a few more colored pencils.
