Excellent.... but,

This juicer is extremely adept at extracting juice from wheatgrass, celery, grapes (who knew making your own grape juice was SOOOO good), and all manner of other vegetables. In the case of wheatgrass, it is remarkably easy to crank. It sometimes takes some extra effort, but it is still quite easy. There are two things that have made this product a little less than perfect. One, you have to find a low cup. There was hardly any room underneath for anything we had in the manner of bowls. We eventually found a orange juicer, you know the ones made of glass with the mountain looking thing in the middle, that works good, plus it has a spout, so it is easy to pour. Two. Putting the thing together is difficult to figure out. The screen doesn't like to fit right, we got it in good a couple of times, except for once. Apparently it wasn't in right, becuase the screw was pressing on it and bent the little lip a bit. Everything works fine still, except it makes a scraping sound. But it was kind of stupid that they wouldn't make it easy to assemble every time. But other than those two problems, they probably wouldn't even be problems for someone who has a little more paticience than I do, it is a very good juicer. WAY better than any electric ones that I have tried. It also cleans really easy. It just takes a rinse, and sometimes a little rubbing to get the pulp out of the screen. I would prabably give it a 4.5 if I could. It isn't quite 5 worthy.

Doubble edged sword,

I agree with other statements that this juicer is awsome for juicing wheatgrass and other leafy greens. I have even done the grape juice in it and it was the best grape juice I have ever had. However, the design of the juicer is such that you have to unscrew and clean out the inside after 3 or 4 groupings of what ever you put into it. While it is excellent at juicing, the process is labor intensive and long. If you don't clean it out frequently then the pulp backs up into the juice outlet and goes into what you want to drink. From start to finish it takes me no less than 45 minutes to get a good amount of juice(2 glasses full). I will keep the one I have and use it, but as far as reccomending it, I would have to say keep saving your money and get something that will save you time. It's good for the price you pay for it, but I am going to be saving for either a champion or another electric masticating juicer. I have had enough of waiting for 45 minutes before I can drink my dinner!

This juicer is one of those "quality of life" items. It'a a pleasure to assemble and use, and it's simple to clean. You can just tell when you hold it in your hand that it's going to last a lifetime,I winced a little at paying a hundred dollars for a hand-crank juicer but when it arrived I could see that it was worth it and I was so glad that I hadn't chosen the one that's half the price. This Back-to-Basics one is made of stainless steel and is machined to close tolerances. I don't understand the other reviewer's complaint about the screen not fitting in easily---the way the pieces fit together so well is one of the juicer's attributes. Assemble it a couple of times and you'll be able to do it with your eyes closed---though that'd be rather pointless, I suppose. Someone commented that one of the juicer's shortcomings was that it was hard to find a cup of suitable size to fit beneath the spout. Oh wow, there's just no pleasing some people. If the spout were any higher the machine would have to be larger and more expensive. Find a teacup, any teacup! Believe me, this juicer is a pleasure to own and a pleasure to use. My brother has one that's half the price and it leaks when he's juicing. Not this one.

Works well for Wheatgrass,
By Jan (Idaho) - See all my reviews

We have used this juicer for 5 months now (along with a vitamix for green smoothies.) I have only used this for wheatgrass, which it does very well. We slip a cereal bowl under the spout, because no cups will fit, and just drink from the bowl. It cleans up very quickly. We keep it in pieces on a towel beside the kitchen sink to prepare single servings as we are home during the day. I just prepared 2 oz each for three people and it was no problem. Take time to place the screen when you assemble it. There is a notch on the handle end of the screen that fits into the space between the handle and the auger. Everything works great if you just set it up right as you put it together. I doubt an electric machine would be any quicker with set up and clean up for single servings, which is how we use it most often.

I use mine for wheatgrass and the quality of the juice is amazing! No lumps! It also does a good job on olive and nuts, believe it or not.

Great Juicer,
By
This review is from: Back to Basics Juicer
I just got the back to basic juicer and could not be happier . I have had two other types of juicers a Champion and a Samson juicer . The Champion juicer when used created by speed , a slight heat which takes away from the flavor of the juice . The Samson juicer is a wonderful juicer as the auger rotates 80 times each minute and creates no heat , The juice is so good and it does a great job of bringing all the juice out of the fruit or vegetable's . The down side is the clean up , the screen takes a while to clean . I went back to the Champion juicer for ease of clean up and it was a faster machine to make juice , ob-course it does not juice as good as the Samson . My Champion plastic part broke . I bought a Back to Basic Juicer and I love it . It is very easy to clean and the juice taste's so good . It does a better job then the Champion for getting all the juice out of the fruit , But not as good as the Samson . I know the Back to Basic juicer will last a life time and will do a great job at juicing . So I am very happy with the Back to Basic Juicer .
