Takes some getting used to, but I can feel the difference, July 19, 2008
This review is from: BackJoy Portable Orthotic Pelvic / Back Support (For Your Chair & Car)
When I first read the reviews on this product, I noticed a few people said their butts hurt from sitting on it. The first night I got the backjoy, the same thing happened to me.
I thought, "What am I missing?"
So I went back to the box, and low and behold found a little quickstart guide titled, "Read this first!"
I read it, then tried the backjoy again. After a few minutes, I finally found the comfort-spot where I was perfectly supported.
After sitting in it for a while, my back felt a little achy. I wondered if perhaps I was again using it wrong, so the instructions said:
"Try sitting without the Backjoy and notice any differences."
So I did that, and immediately I realized that sitting normally hurt my tailbone and butt even more!
It turns out that it actually takes some time for the back to adjust to sitting properly (imagine that!)
Long story short: It's now about 30 days after I bought this, and I'm still getting used to it but I definitely feel the difference and will continue to use it.
If you're having trouble with it, read the instructions and try it for a few weeks. When you find the 'sweet spot' you'll notice the difference instantly.

BackJoy, August 9, 2008
This review is from: BackJoy Portable Orthotic Pelvic / Back Support (For Your Chair & Car)
I give this a "fair." I'm not sure if it does anything at all other than in the car. The McKenzie Method (roll pillow at the small of the back) seems to do better in most circumstances.
The BackJoy is not nearly as portable as they make it seem in their online adds. It does not fold easily and if you force it to fold it is still a large mass that does not fit in any bag I carry. It doesn't pack well and doesn't do well for sitting up in bed (mattress defeats the supposed function). It doesn't do well in some ergonomic chairs (desk chairs). It is also very hot causing me to sweat a lot!
I still use it in the car, where it seems to be most effective - there, it actually DOES prevent back pain from long rides.

has saved my back, January 25, 2008
This review is from: BackJoy Portable Orthotic Pelvic / Back Support (For Your Chair & Car)
I've been using BackJoy for over a year. Having had a desk job for my entire career, BackJoy has made the hours in front of my computer so much more bearable. Before, I suffered from horrible posture and tight shoulders--I don't feel these common aches and pain anymore.
However, I decided to write a review after I tweaked my back and experienced the relief that BackJoy was able to provide. I knew that the "cushion" helped me sit taller and much more comfortably, but I didn't know how profound this effect would be until after my injury. The only way I could bear to sit was with a BackJoy.
Whether you're suffering from intense pain or simply want to alleviate the stress of long-term sitting, I would recommend this product. *Please be sure to read the instructions carefully.* I think misuse has been the primary reason why others haven't been satisfied. It's really important to scoot yourself back on the cushion as far as you can so the curved back actually scoops your rear. You'll feel when you're in the sweet spot.
