Bachache Sufferers Surveyed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Backache Relief (Signet) (Paperback)
This book is the result of a survey of 492 backache and neckache sufferers, and what did and what did not work for them. It discusses types of practitioners, drugs, therapies, exercises, and other lifestyle tips. I found it very helpful.

Still the best review of Practitioners and Practice,
This review is from: Backache Relief (Hardcover)
This book originally appeared in 1985 and was reissued in 1991. Based on a review of questionaires issed to selected individuals, the relative rating of practioners and methods of treatment is still current as of this date (2/2005), judged by my personal experience with treatment of this condition for over 30 years.
His bottom line: See a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation if your back does not get well with treatment by someone else, especially if someone has recommended surgery!!

20 years ago my back was getting so bad that I knew I would soon be disabled. My doctor didn't help. Somehow I found this book Backache Relief by Klein. Though I normally don't have or take time to read books, I read this one cover to cover. The primary message I got from it is, "There is a treatment that WILL WORK for you! If your present treatment isn't effective within several months, TRY ANOTHER PROVIDER among those therapies recommended, until you find the one that works. YOU WILL FIND ONE THAT WORKS! And the effective treatment is rarely surgery." Just reading it changed my attitude from negative to very positive. Having learned this, within some eight months, on the second provider trial after my doctor, I found a very excellent physical therapist, (Nora Miller of Good Samaritan Hospital, Puyalllup WA, if you're in this area, who is very knowledgeable about sports medicine, an athlete herself) who recommended special exercises which almost completely eliminated my back pain. Read this book to first get a positive attitude toward your back, and then to proceed to treatment which is effective!
