I play this CD VERY often and have not tired of it yet. Don Was with a Jazz record? I questioned this also and after I was surprised by the complete lack of "Beatles" reference in all the songs...I began to embrace it for what it was: A very well done Jazz CD. Highly recommened.
The movie was very good too.

The film Backbeat included some very, very good music. The cover of (I'm a) roadrunner on the "rock album" is absolutely first-rate. This CD is also very good and particularly notable because these are all originals. The first song is a very unique jazz tune to a more "rockish" shuffle beat. Great background music. Totally unique. As someone else has suggested, their were some other good songs in the movie which did not make it onto either disk.

Atmospheric jazz, very well recorded, I picked a copy of this up new years ago in Japan + it's had a lot of play since. I believe Don Was won a music industry award for this soundtrack

I agree with the comments given by the other two reviewers.This CD has been deleted in the UK for years, so i was really pleased that it was available from Amazon US (at the time, 4 years ago!). My sister, who lives in the States, was able to purchase this for me on my behalf and send it over to me.

The music on this CD is fantastic. However, my main criticism, though is why was the superb music in the opening credit sequence of the film (which, incidentally, is likewise a great film!)omitted from this CD???!!! This was one of the reasons i bought this CD in the first place.A great shame indeed!

I hope at some stage, it will be re-released with all other omitted music in tact (i hope!!!).

I thoroughly enjoy this album. However, there were other tracks from the film that should have been included.
