Editorial Reviews

Review

... [This is ] the new edition of David Goodman's Eastern backcountry bible, Classic Backcountry Skiing: A Guide to the Best Ski Tours in New England.

...Goodman's recast guide...retitled as Backcountry Skiing Adventures: Classic Ski and Snowboard Tours in Maine and New Hampshire, includes a sizable section on snowboarding as well as half a dozen new tours, a long overdue definitive guide to Tuckerman's Ravine and a major revamping of several other trips. Part deux, expected next season, will lead the faithful around the rest of New England and also make fresh tracks to the high peaks of the Adirondacks in New York.

...Goodman treats readers to a healthy mix of information and inspiration. [He] infuses his guide with an unparalleled voice that makes it clear he's been there--as indeed he has.

...Goodman's stash of ski history and his award-winning ability to bring it alive in his book should provide skiers and snowboarders alike with a greater appreciation of the trailblazers that went before them. -- Back Country Magazine, November 1998, Reviewed by David Healy

5.0 out of 5 stars Bible for its topic, February 8, 2009

This review is from: Backcountry Skiing Adventures: Maine and New Hampshire: Classic Ski and Snowboard Tours in Maine and New Hampshire (Paperback)
This book does a very good job covering exactly what described by its title, no less, not much more. If you know how to x-c ski, it provides all the information you need to enjoy many backcountry tours in Maine and New Hampshire - from history, clothing and equipment, safety to detailed information of 26 tours (e.g. map, distance, elevation, difficulty level, etc.) The author undoubtedly best suits writing such book because the book is about his passion.

What would add significant value to this book is a large color topographic map similar to AMC's winter tails map.
