1.0 out of 5 stars Just Not Worth It
To be honest, I couldn't finish this book. And to be even more honest, I could barely force myself to read 1/2 of it. I only bothered to try because it was given to me by a friend and I didn't want to seem unappreciative, but the writing is so flimsy and the style is not unique at all. The character development of "Hannah" is stale and weak. I found the fictional plot to...

Everyday we struggle to get through our unending list of to-do's, work and family obligations and stresses. It is always a challenge to find a way to incorporate eastern ideas of harmony and happiness into everyday life. The surprising discovery process of the main characters, the clear and authentic commentary, and the "take home message" bullet points at the end of each chapter truly make this a companion for reference on how to deal with every situation with more awareness, joy, and compassion. The mastery of Buddhist ideas and the engaging narrative in this book enforce the serendipitous collaboration of Za Rinpoche and Ashley Nebelsieck and provide profound and practical advice to reach our full potential to be happy and enjoy our lives with great purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, February 25, 2008
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
So I opened the book and then even though the phones rang and clock
ticked, I couldn't put it down. That simple every day things we know but don't pay much attention to, can be pointed out in a fun mystery is a treasure. They say only a master can make the most difficult easy. There were moments when the ordinary fog lifted and I found delight. I found hope and had a great read. Should have five stars and then given some kind of ribbon for inspiration.

My granddaughter, daughter and mother-in-law will all enjoy it, something that spans the generations. For heaven sakes, read it, have fun, find happiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, everyday and enchanting for all of us, March 9, 2008
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
Za Rinpoche and Ashley Nebelsieck write well in tandem to explain the basic Buddhist concepts of the Six Perfections and explain to the common reader how to seek happiness and enlightenment in their lives right now. Nebelsieck's engaging fiction, and Za Rinpoche's diamond-like wisdom and clarity provide a call-and-response effect that allows the reader to experience the journey of the central characters, and then apply those same lessons into their own life. A must-read for those seeking to break free from their self-imposed conceptions, and for those caught up in the mundane and the everyday of their lives. Za Rinpoche and Ms. Nebelsieck are the Johnny and June Carter Cash of the Middle Way - spiritual outlaws who break the rules for deliverance (of other sentient beings). Get the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Radical way to give wisdom teachings, February 26, 2008

This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is ready for a new and radical way to get wisdom. And it isn't boring, that's for sure, as many of those other books are. There is a plot and it is riveting, witty and chugs along smoothly. What the authors have to say is earth shaking stuff, too. And I think that anyone will "get it."
As you read this, what takes place will be the witnessing of an adventure in your mind that can only be likened to a dream of truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, March 5, 2008
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
It is hard to describe in a few words how wonderful this book is. I am a practicing psychiatrist, and throughout the course of the week I often hear someone say " I want more self esteem", self worth. We hear this often from many people. This book describes how we already have the qualities that we are looking for, and how we can realize this. It is written in a very clear and understandable way, which then makes it easy to apply it to our every day life. It helps us not to be so discouraged with life when we can see that we already have what we have been looking for, something that will really make us happy. I think this book is for every one whether you identify yourself as a spiritual seeker or not. I would just like to say thank you to Za Rinpoche and Ashley Nebelsieck.

5.0 out of 5 stars everything u wanted to know about enlightenment but were afraid to ask, February 26, 2008
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
This is LIFE ALTERING yet remarkably easy-to-read. Nebelsieck's ability to draw simple parallels between our lives and ancient wisdom make this book unique in it's genre.
I've suffered from depression and a general malaise toward my life and read many a self-helf book in my search for answers. This book is truly inspiring and has helped me to look in the right places.
MUST READ.

5.0 out of 5 stars "O" magazine picks another winner!!!, February 25, 2008
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
I noticed a quote in "O" magazine from this book and proceeded to research this book and found it on Amazon. This is an amazingly useful tool that everyone should have and use in their daily lives. I not only found the story entertaining but loved how it linked the ideas in a very straight forward and easy to use way. Kudo's to the authors who took very deep and profound Tibetan teachings for all of us to easily understand and apply to our everyday lives. This is definitely a book that I will recommend highly to my book club and students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book, April 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
This is a great little book that I wish I had read when I was younger! The authors combine logic with Buddhist concepts, interwoven with a good mystery story, to explain their ideas about attaining life goals. I haven't quite finished it, and I look forward to finding out how the story ends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing, March 5, 2008
This review is from: The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World (Paperback)
The Backdoor to enlightenment is entertaining and informative. It intersects the perspectives from a Buddist Monk and a non-Buddist author to awaken our awareness of who we are.
The obvious research and soul searching has made this book a winner. It's entertaining, but most of all encouraging and life changing. The book is hard to put down; even now I find myself referring back to the marked pages for inspiration and guidance.
This might prove to be the most important book Za Rinpoche and Ashley Nebelsieck could give to those who are seeking to embrace their fullest potential.
Recommended for anyone of any spiritual inclination.
