Will Joe keep his word to the backfield package, or will he follow his own promising football career? Thomas Dygard scores a touchdown with Backfield Package, another well-written football story. In this excellent football thriller, Joe Mitchell and his three football friends Tracy, Coley, and Lew decide after their junior year in highschool when they win the conference to all attend Ryder State for college and football. But as Joe gets widely recruited by big name colleges, he starts to weigh his options, and his friends' parents start to think it may be better for them to split up. He has to make his decision after he complete their senior football season. Sporadically, the novel was great. Most of the time though, it was only good, primarily because it was edgy about things, and the novel started suddenly and ended suddenly. My recommendations for this book would be: young adults ages 10-16 and people whole like and know the game of football. If you liked Halfback Pass, also by Dygard, this is sure to be on your favorite list.

A 30 year old man!!!,

For my book report I choose a book called "Backfield Package." I picked this book because I'm interested in sports and I felt as if it was an appropriate book for me to read. The author of this book is Thomas J. Dygard. He began his career as a sportswriter for the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock and joined the Associated Press (AP) in 1954. Since then he has worked in many other AP offices around the country. Currently he is Bureau Chief in Tokyo, Japan. Characters The book consists of four high school football players characters and a few other important characters. The main character is Joe Mitchell. Joe is the Quarterback for the Hillcrest Cardinals. His father managed the Hillcrest Water Works. He earned a solid living. Not a luxury living, but a comfortable life. Joe's grades were good enough to satisfy almost any college entrance. Then there is Tracy Jackson the Cardinals' wide receiver. Money never seemed to be a problem in the Jackson household. Tracy's father was the President of the Hillcrest State Bank. Coley Brewster, the small running back. Coley making excellent grades probably could get a scholarship without football. The last of the four players is Lew Preston, the tallest of the four was a powerfully built fullback. Lew on the other hand had terrible grades. Barbara Landford, a pretty blonde who plays tennis for the Hillcrest High tennis team. Coley was quick but not strong; Lew was strong but not quick. Joe was quick and strong. Tracy was a step slow going out for a pass or running the ball. Settings The story takes place in a small town called Hillcrest, Illinois sometime in the 1990's. The settings take place in Ellie's Café, at the football fields, at school, and at Joe's and Tracy's house. The four of them hangout at Ellie's Café on Saturday mornings. It's also where Barbara Landford comes into the story. The Cardinals practice at their field and played

Read this BOOK(AND REVIEW)!!!!!,
A Kid's Review

This book will keep you asking when the next book will be published by Thomas J. Dygard. The book involved an internal conflict between Joe and the decesion on where to go to college. There is also an external conflict between Joe and the rest of the team because of a article printed, by the editor without Joe's permission, in the paper. To find out more about the conflict and action of the story, you will have to read the book. If anything, believe me when I say this was the best book that I have read this past two years. So trust me when I say, you should read this book. Thanks!

I choose to read this book because it was about football and choosing between going to college with your friends or somewhere that has a great football tradition. Four high school friends promise each other that they are going to go to college and play football together. One of them has scouts from major schools looking at him and he has to choose whether he will leave his friends and go to a winning football program or whether he will keep their promise and attend college with his friends. I would recommend this book for someone in 6th to 10th grade. Overall it was a good book, and it was worth reading.

The "Backfield Package" includes the whole package and then some. A really fun book to read Thomas J. Dygard was great in writing this sport action thriller! Joe Mitchell, the star quarterback, and his three best friends have been playing football together ever since they first met. They were an excellent combination in that they went undefeated in their final season. In their senior year, all four players shined and got the name backfield package. They were all very close and they did not want to end the backfield package just yet. So they all agreed to going to the same college even though the school was second rate. But when Joe starts getting offers from top football schools and rumors start flying that the backfield package is in jeopardy along with their friendship. What will Joe do? What comes first college or friendship? And will he be able to live with his decision he comes up with? Overall I'd rate this a five because Dygard does an excellent job in catching the readers attention. And if you like sports this ones a treat.

A Book Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Backfield package (Paperback)
Backfield Package by Thomas J. Dygard is about four football players named Joe, Coley, Tracey, and Lew. They want to stick together for college, but Joe gets a scholarship to another college. So Joe has a big decision to make.
The story begins with Joe and his three friends. Their team, the Hillcrest Cardinals, is having football practice. They can't wait for the season to start. Halfway through the season, they only have one loss. Also, halfway through the season is when Joe gets a phone call from Randolph University. He doesn't want anyone to know, except his parents. They still have one hard game left on their schedule. It's against the Cougars. The Cardinals loose, but they played a good game. The main characters are Joe, Coley, Tracey, and Lew. They are football players at Hillcrest High. They have a great relationship with each other. My favorite part is when the Cardinals win the championship. The author's purpose is to entertain. I liked this book because it was about football, and it was about friends. I reccomened this book to fifth grade boys who like football.

Backfield Package,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Backfield Package (Hardcover)
Joe Mitchell is the star quarterback at Hillcrest High. Joe and his friends plan to go to the same collage next year and keep the backfield package intact. Then a problem comes along when Joe receives interest from a major collage. His parents and coaches want him to explore all of his options. Now Joe has to choose between his friends and his future.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars because the author used too much description in the book too much. The plot line wasn't as exiting as I wished it had been. I would recommend it to my friends because it has a pretty good life lesson to it.

Now he is put in a difficult position, go with his friends or his potential career as a football player. The audience of this book is most likely going to be a younger audience.
