This backgammon set isn't bad -- but it's not much better than the typical $10 one you can pick up at Target or Toys R Us.

There's little difference in quality. The one feature that caught my eye when I ordered it, the real wood, is actually worse than the cheapo versions I mentioned. The wood is of poor quality, and the dark triangles blend in with the background wood making it hard to see the board properly, and the wooden pieces are flimsy and light, easily scattered and worn. The buckle and handle have more heft than a cheapo version, but simply feel clunky rather than solid and strong. Just heavier. The one thing that is arguably better are the dice rolling cups. The wood has a nice grain to it brought out by the light stain.

Oh, and there isn't even an instruction page. Of course most people who buy this already know how to play, but sometimes I forget how to set up. It would have been nice to at least have the initial diagram, and maybe rules about bearing off properly (people sometimes disagree about proper bearing off.)

So again, nothing outright wrong, but I have a feeling I'll use my $10 cloth and vinyl set more. Disappointing.

I ordered a gold case backgammon set which arrived today. Shipping was fast, but product was "cheap" and not worthy of a backgammon set. I've been playing since 1966. The order shipped on 12/15/2008, and arrived as scheduled. I think the hassle factor of a return is not worth my time.

The Backgammon game, which I selected, presents a very professionally designed game. It is packaged in a very attractive faux leather attache' case. The playing board an attractive wood background. The dice cups have an attractive and durable simulated leather covering. My only disappointment is that the playing pieces are made of tooled-wood rather than lathe-cut stones.Backgammon Attache 18"

Backgammon is a great game for friends or couples. My husband and I like games, but quickly found there aren't a lot for just two people. This one is great. Pretty easy to learn, there is strategy involved and it's just a lot of fun.
