I'm a fan so I am biased.
Pretty interesting book , I'd rate it as an " so what's next ?" chapter. Most annoying the release timetable - I read a book every couple of days... would have loved to get this whole line at once. Star Wars without Luke , isn't realy Star Wars for me, so I read this happily. Still I wonder what will happen when they kill him?! Afterall nobody can survive all the ods these characters get.

Baran D'oh!,
This review is from: Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Outcast (Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was really looking forward to Outcast. I have been dying to find out what kind of series would follow the epic story of wishy-washy Sith Lord, Darth Caedus. At first glance I will say that elements of this series are reminding me of Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix and Daala it's Professor Umbridge. But instead of the Order of the Pheonix we have, Darkmeld. This portion, plot 1, the Jedi madness/Jailbreak-in portion was fun. Jaina and Jagg aren't overly interesting on their own but it was fun.
Plot 2, Ben and Luke's adventure with the Baran Do Sages was a nice little story. I love Ben and Luke together. Clearly the best part of this book was this plot but there was so little of it and it was tied up quickly with all the complication of a Clone Wars episode. I was hoping that Luke and Ben's search into the more arcane Force traditions to be a little more edgy and and mystical than this first tale. Plot 3, The Han/Lando/Kessel/Leia gambit bored me to tears. To bloody tears. I don't know if it's EU burnout or what but I wasn't really feeling Outcast. This subplot pulled me out of a book I was mildly enjoying otherwise. Even the Rogue Squadron appearance wasn't inspired, quirky or particularly funny. (And that's really strange for an Allston book)

Great continuation of Star Wars series - some have been real disappointments. This one develops the characters believably, with reader sympathy. The plot, and subplots, aren't too difficult to follow. Author has a great sense of humor, keeping the story from being too dry or depressing. I found it an entertaining read.

A good read, that is true to the old characters and adds depths to the new ones. The connection between Luke and Ben is fun to watch develop into a friendship.

It's about time the stories came unabridged. Now no more drastic and unfortunate cuts into the story. The whole book is here just as it was meant to be read and enjoyed. I hope never to see abridgements again!
Good story too.

Good book.
Good Voice acting. Excellent story. Consistently building through disc 9 with a cliff hanger ending.

"Contrived" is my single-word summary. Multiple plot elements have been mashed together haphazardly in ways that neither follow logically from each other nor make for good narrative. It feels like the aim was to tell a broad, sweeping story, but in practice we get a number of briefly-told short stories. The sum is not greater than its parts.
Spoilers, with specifics: Luke is exiled after a series of bureaucratic machinations and then goes off to find out what drove his nephew mad. Either one of these, by themselves, could have made for an interesting story. Instead we get both. Neither half informs the other. Similarly, Han and Leia fly off to help their old friend Lando -- and coincidentally avoid a government crackdown, which is given as a reason for them leaving when they do. Again, either element could have been a plot unto itself; conjoining them means that Allston does not have enough time to address either satisfactorily.

The Saga Continues,

What can you say about a story that never ends, but keeps generation after generation enthralled in one adventure after another? I gues you could say, it must be a George Lucas inspired story!! You would be right. Anakin, Padme, C3PO,R2D2,Han,Leia, Chewie, the list goes on and on. I have a whole library of shef after shelf of Star Wars books and keep buying more. This time, I have a "good" feeling about this...Read it, and the ones that follow!
