I finally bought this and eagerly awaited its arrival. My main interest was in the Deep Purple photos, which looked interesting. The book is ok, but it's printed on flat stock paper, so there's no life to the photos. I'd hoped (and expected) the pictures to be on glossy paper, like other rock photo books I own. There's one photo per page, with a subject, date and location. No other info provided. The photos are good, that's not a problem. The photo of Alvin Lee getting high is a great, candid shot. There are numerous dynamic moments caught here, particularly the photos of The Who. He caught them at the peak of their game and the photos are superb.

I'd love to see this photographer do a book on just Deep Purple, since he says he had unlimited access to them. There's a photo of a bunch of backstage passes for Deep Purple, so he must have a ton of photos. I'd guess that the demand for a book like that might result in a better quality product and better sales. What he offers here is a tantalizing glimpse into what is most certainly a vast archive of classic rock photos.

Bottom line? Good book, could have been better. However, we could not have it at all, so I'm not too upset by what I paid and what I got.

A must have book for rock and roll fans and photographers. Intimate iconic black and white images by a master photojournalist. Unforgettable scenes of backstage life combined with powerful performances of some of the greatest stars in rock and roll history. BACKSTAGE: ALL ACCESS, helps to define rock and roll and great photojournaism.

I haven't seen these photos before, anywhere. Great look back at rock and roll icons. Can't wait until Volume 2!
