5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, October 30, 2009
This review is from: Backstage at The Caribou (Kindle Edition)
This is a great story about a young woman finding herself in very unusual circumstances. It reads very easily, but the complex characters and subplots leave lasting memories.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Backstage at The Caribou (Kindle Edition)
This book is a wonderful read. In some ways it's a coming of age story. In other ways it's a simple story of a woman lifting the veil of her naivete via gut wrenching experiences that she is able to incorporate into contented self-knowledge by the story's end.

I don't necessarily agree that Michelle finds herself in "very unusual circumstances" as they are quite ordinary for many young women. The power of this story is in how she works her way through her denial and escapism to acceptance and the powerful personal growth she gains from those experiences.

Weaving Michelle's personal narrative with the convoluted machinations of her fellow characters Jade Sylvan has created a deeply moving and eloquent portrait. She paints richly detailed portraits with her words. If you have never before experienced a place like The Caribou you will have before the novel's end. Her characters come to be very real and you'll be enriched by sharing your life with them.

Ms. Sylvan, novelist, poet, artist, and musician is a creative talent from whom I expect great things.
