Huge in Britain - Missed the boat in America,
This review is from: Backstreet Symphony (Audio CD)
Thunder rocked with the best bands from the 1990's. Word on the street is that Thunder is still alive and well a dozen albums later and they have/had a reunion tour just after 2000. Danny Bowes had the vocal chords to power out a hard rocking song, as well as sing those 80's style power ballads. Their albums are extremely hard to find... most are out of print in America and now only sold in the states as imports. While perhaps their biggest release in Britain and Japan, "Backstreet Symphony" (1990) found only limited success here in America. "Symphony" spawned perhaps their biggest hit "Dirty Love", as well as the slower ballads "Love Walked In" and "Higher Ground". As good as the slower songs were, I liked Thunder because they could rock the house... check out "Girl's Going Out Of Her Head". Thunder joins the ranks with other select rock bands that had something to offer, but for whatever reason just didn't cash in here in America; like Mr. Big, Kix, Firehouse, Junkyard, etc. A fantastic rock album from an underrated British band. Seek this one out!

Great blues based Brit Rock...,

This review is from: Backstreet Symphony (Audio CD)
Backstreet Symohony is a great release from a great band that simply flew under most people's radar because they were never able to get that hit single in the States. Thunder plays simple straightforward blues based rock with great hooks and melodies(they are NOT a "hair band" as they are sometimes lumped in with). Full of guitars, great vocals(I really like Don Bowes' voice) and lyrics with tounge in cheek humor this is just good FUN rock'n'roll.
Song Highlights include: Dirty Love, Backstreet Symphony, Love Walked In, An Englishman On Holiday(should be on every barroom jukebox), Gimme Some Lovin'(good cover) and Distant Thunder. If you are a fan of guitar based rock, Thunder delivers it in spades and Backstreet Symphony is worthy of a place in your collection.

Yes it's old, but it rocks!,
This review is from: Backstreet Symphony (Audio CD)
I bought this CD MANY years ago because I loved the music of Andy Taylor (he produced this, I think)and have loved it since. The music is great and "Englishman on Holiday" is funny. It didn't get nearly the credit it deserved back then. It's good, timeless rock and roll.

I never heard of these guys before and I only saw it on cassette tape. i STILL HAVE IT.And I still listen to it.Check out "Until my dying day" LOUD.This guy has a voice in the range of Ronnie Dio but a little nastier.I'm going to buy more from these guys now that I know they were not "one album wonders" Buy this,it's KILLER

Rock music has, over it's stormy history, produced some great singers. Names such as Brian Johnston, John Fogerty, Paul Rodgers,Burton Cummings, Dan Bowes.... Who, you may ask, is Dan Bowes?
Why, he's just about the greatest lead vocalist you've never heard. But, I promise you, if you listen to even ONE Thunder album , you will agree with me. This guy has a voice that cuts 'em all. And, Thunder is one hell of a good band. This, thier debut album, is very, very impressive. "She's so fine", Dirty Love, Until my dying day", go ahead, pick one, you'll love them all. Eleven great songs performed with a great deal of enthusiasm and skill by a great band with a singer you will not believe. Go ahead, buy a Thunder album. Take it home and tell me I'm wrong. Thunder...Dan Bowes. Great, great stuff.

THUNDER: Pure brilliance...,

I was watching TV during the summer when I first heard Thunder. They were on a show, which depicted the very best of rock throughout the ages. It was there too that I discovered Whitesnake. Since, I've spent months in search of 'Here I Go Again' only to find (about half an hour ago) that I had it on CD the whole time and I've never once noticed!!!Well, that's quite a different story. I'm Thunder's latest fan. Their definitive style and classy edge give rock 'n' roll something to admire. NEVER BEFORE has my breath been taken away by a song so dramatically as when I heard 'Love Walked In' for the first time. If there's a rock song out there that's better than this then I don't have a clue what it would be or where it could be found. It was a stroke of luck that a friend of mine found I'd heard Thunder. She gave me this CD to borrow, so now I'm looking to buy it. It's fantastic throughout. 'She's So Fine', 'Until My Dying Day' and 'Love Walked In' are three sensational tracks... so I'd recommend this CD to anyone and everyone who loves the sound of that sweet guitar! Rock on!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Backstreet Symphony (MP3 Download)
I was looking for some good old rock n' roll on Amazon when this band popped up; and let me say--WoW!! These guys rock and rock hard...I can't believe they never made it in the US and to find out that they are/have disbanded is a big disappointment. For anyone looking to buy an awesome 'rock in ur face' CD...buy this.

Pure British rock at it's best,
By Mark Stanton (Northampton, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Backstreet Symphony (Audio CD)
I've been listening to these guys right from the start and they never fail dissapoint either in the studio or live. This is pure British rock at it's best. The power of Danny Bowes vocals on tracks like "dont wait for me" will never fail to impress. An incredible debut album that is a must for any respectable CD collection. This album really does stand the test of time even after 18 years.
