Editorial Reviews

After resuscitating his career with 1990's Victory Mixture, Willy DeVille followed it up two years later with what is widely regarded as his greatest achievement as both songwriter and performer.

1992's Backstreets Of Desire was recorded in various Los Angeles studios but features Louisiana-based musicians Dr John and Zachary Richard, plus Los Lobos' David Hidalgo.

This album contains some of Willy's best songs, including Jump City and Bamboo Road. A standout track is the mariachi version of Hendrix's Hey Joe which was released as a single and charted in several European countries.

We've tracked down the original photographers and the result is a beautifully illustrated booklet with sleeve-notes from Garth Cartwright, who has interviewed the producer and many of the musicians involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Willy's Masterpeice October 10, 2013
And I don't title this lightly. Actually, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this before now (thought I did years ago). And at this date, not going to go into great detail other than to highly recommend this to:

DeVille fans of all stripes and all periods of his career
Anyone who appreciates the ability of rock 'n' roll to move you
Anyone who recognizes that rock 'n' roll encompasses a wealth of roots and influences

DeVille here was simply at the top of his game (which is saying something) as a singer and a writer. The man left a tremendous body of terrific music, some as good as this, but none better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent music! March 3, 2014

I only recently found Willy DeVille's music, so I don't know much about his production. Still, this cd was way more than I expected. Different music styles blended perfectly together with a fresh feeling. I recommend it to anyone who appreciates good music that breaks boundaries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deville Delivers Again September 20, 2013
Verified Purchase
Willy Deville is a tragic hero, with respect to his music. Unrecognized in the US, he was adored in Europe. He is a treasure waiting to be discovered. (on this disc, he does a 'salsa-fied' cover of Hendrix' "Hey Joe" that's ballsy but works perfectly) NE one who kinda remembers "Spanish Stroll" from the CBGB era should reconnect. There are 30 years of eclectic artistry awaiting you.
