Not My Little Granddarlings!,
By Ruth Zimmerman (NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
As Audrey Ricker says, admitting they aren't perfect is the first step to curing rudeness in your grandchildren. As I began the book, I thought, she doesn't know my perfect little darlings. If they're a little sassy, it's just a phase. They'll get over it. She makes a good case, though. A cute, assertive two-year-old can quickly become a rude four-year-old, and woe to the grandparents trying to deal with the back talking teen he/she eventually becomes. In her four step program, the author tells grandparents how to (1) recognize backtalk, (2) decide on a consequence for it, (3) enact a consequence, and (4) disengage from the grandchild's protest. The book is concise and convincing. In fact, I am so convinced by it that I bought five copies of Dr. Ricker's first book, Back Talk, as a Christmas gift for the parents of all my grandchildren.

Hits the mark!,
By "audmarcus33" (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
This book is a must for grandparents whose grandchildren live in either the same city or across the country. We all know our grandchildren are "perfect" but there are the times when they believe that we are pushovers - and we know that we are! Dr. Ricker has excellent strategies for diffusing what could become hairy situations!

Finally--a book for seniors!,
This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
It's about time someone wrote a book addressing the issues that today's grandparents face! It's nice to see that an acclaimed parenting author like Dr. Ricker was willing to take on this topic. The book is full of helpful tips for getting your grandchildren to behave better, without making them hate you. I also recommend it for aunts and uncles.

By Elaine D. (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews

Easy, enjoyable read. Makes lots of sense. Really identifies the base issues with keeping control of grandchildren on those RARE instances they get a little out of hand. Has worked for me, and should work for anyone.

Terrific!!!,

This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
I read this book in one sitting. I enjoyed it immensely as a follow-up to their first book on backtalk. I shared it with friends who were grandparents, and they loved it! The steps were practical and realistic. A person with determination can make this happen. It takes a strong individual to make a stand and follow through, but it can be done.

Back Talk grandparents,
By A Customer
This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
The book is easy to use and very consise. It reads like an outline instead of a book. It gets to the point and is obviouslyright on the mark for dealing with children, wheather they are your grand children or your own children. It is easy to open the book anywhere and get some good points.

You mean Grandma's NOT a stupid dork?,
By J.B. Lyle (Queen Creek, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
Ricker understands the problem. Kids today, even our own personal darling incredible grandkids, are often rude. They backtalk. Ricker knows how to change that, and tells us in four steps. The four steps are simple. We just need the courage to carry them out. Follow the steps she outlines, and backtalk changes to good manners. As they say, sound like a plan? If there is a hitch, it's in facing the fact that backtalk IS backtalk -- not making excuses for it. A loving grandparent herself, the author knows our impulse to duck the unpleasant truth. Stop ducking, she gently urges. Use her four-step method and take the rudeness out of your relationships with grandchildren. They ought to hand out this book with your license to become a grandparent.

A book for everyone,
By Taralynn (Hattiesburg, MS USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Backtalk for Grandparents and Their Grandchildren (Paperback)
This book was definitely a quick read and very useful. Examples in the book pertain to all who deal with or parent children in some way -- not just for grandparents. The Four Steps to handling backtalk from children are very useful. Even for someone who may not have children of his or her own can still learn from the book. I have seen many of these behaviors in college students and can only think, "If their parents had only used the Four Steps in controlling their children's disrespectful behavior, my job could focus more on educating students rather than handling disciplinary problems." I highly recommend this book to anyone, grandparent or not. Many of the issues raised in this volume are similar to Dr. Ricker's first Backtalk book, which helped reinforce the point that no matter what age you are, backtalk is unacceptable.
