Remote FTP Backup Function Does Not Work,
By shancarrick (Syracuse, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Backup Now! 4 Deluxe Suite (CD-ROM)
My company purchased this software for its advertised ability to perform "Remote FTP Backups". Simply stated, this function does not work. When a backup is started utilizing this option, the BackupNow program goes into a loop, and has to be killed in Task Manager.
A little background info on me: I've been an I.T. guy for almost 12 years. I've performed hundreds of installs in my time, and have written my fair share of applications, too. This product is a shoddy piece of you-know-what. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poor Support,
This review is from: Backup Now! 4 Deluxe Suite (CD-ROM)
Backup Now has a nice user interface, but every time I tried to do a backup, I'd get a "file not found" message, then the backup would abort. I sent numerous emails to NTI tech support, but NEVER received a response. I finally returned the software as defective.

A waste, don't trust it with your data,

Hey guess what, it doesn't backup your Windows registry! Just wait and find that out after a crash...... Also, if a backup drive runs out of space, guess what the software does... corrupts your entire drive! This software is just poorly implemented and you should NOT under any circumstances, trust your data to this.

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!! It generates all kinds of file errors which are not understandable to the common man. It is very slow, and with compression turned on, it CRAWLS!! The product support is TERRIBLE!! The interface, on the other hand, is a dream come true. It has beautiful, logical, easy-to-follow steps to make your backup file. One thing I don't quite understand: I back up to an external USB drive and it breaks up the backup into several files names. I can't quite figure that one out:-( I have been using Acronis True Image 9 for a while now and LOVE it and would recommend it over NTI.

The GUI is suprisingly rudimentary. The window cannot be resized. There is no customization for toolbars, icons, or skin color. Version 3 was better looking with more user flexibility. Backup Now was as easy to use as version 3. However, DriveImage was not as friendly.
The Append/Overwrite feature in DriveImage, with drive spanning selected, took a few tries to figure out so as not to overwrite the 1st disc (as disc #3). I finally selected "Prompt me..." to be on the safe side. Backing up with DriveImage was smooth BUT restoring was another issue. I encountered errors when restoring from emergency recovery images. I tried two different kinds of media (dvdrw and cdrw), imaged the same C: drive, and had errors trying to restore from the dvdrw and the cdrw. Fortunately, I created a dvdrw image backup of the same C: drive WITHOUT an emergency recovery (yes, I imaged the same drive 3 times to test out this newly installed software...I believe in better safe than sorry and backup overkill). I was able to restore the drive using the dvdrw image created WITHOUT an emergency recovery and a boot disc (cdrw) created from DriveImage. I really liked version 3, which I used for years. I believe New Tech could have done a better job with version 4. I don't know if I'd buy version 5. I'd have to read some impressive reviews from regular users like myself, first.

We've been using NTI Backup for quite some time. It seems quite reliable and user friendly. However, the one thing most managers seem to like about it is that it's automated... ie. you don't have to worry about when you last backed-up. Once you set it up you just change your disk daily. The only one thing I would say they could improve on a bit is a little faster support. I notice they put a lot cuter rep on the front cover too!

When my hard drive failed I attempted to recover my data to another computer. The new backup hard drive label (D) was different from the prior hard drive label (E). I could never download data to the new computer from the backup hard drive. I sent at least five emails seeking support and received NO help, NADA. It was like having an airbag that wouldn't deploy when you needed it. It was too late to find out that it didn't work. I now use GoodSync which is very cheap and easy to use.

Zero stars for this company's products! I was sold a product direct from them that was incompatible. I have spent hours in arguments over refunds, etc. Sales reps and Cust Sevr untrained. They DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR COMPANY/PRODUCT! BEWARE.
