Cowboys International, the forerunners of early 80s new wave rock, have returned with an album that will bring the modern rock movement around full circle and remind listeners of not just how we got here, but why. Widely acclaimed for their groundbreaking debut album The Original Sin, Cowboys International are back to show audiences brave new ideas with The Backwards Life of Romeo, an introspective look at life and love. Ken Lockie, the creative force behind Cowboys International, marked his return to the contemporary music scene in 2003 by re-mastering and releasing favorite Cowboys tracks as album entitled Revisited. The 2004 incarnation of Cowboys International delivers a sparkling new album of modern sounds and great rock and roll. The Backwards Life of Romeo is a 13-track excursion into the insight of one of modern rocks most innovative minds, and an album that is sure to become a new classic among music fans everywhere.
The Backwards Life of Romeo opens with the uplifting, organ-powered Strawberries, complete with light-hearted trumpet lines and a pentatonic oriental vibe that shines through to make even the most despondent listener smile. The third song finds the title track for the album, an energetic concept piece that contradicts the legend of the star-crossed lovers in a cleverly twisted take on the classic tragedy. With a "reversed" feel to the underlying structure of the song, The Backwards Life of Romeo illustrates again the inventive nature of Ken Lockies writing style. The new album from Cowboys International delivers the kind of music that fans have been waiting to hear since the early days of modern rock and new wave. As one of the top bands of that time, who better to deliver that sound than the original creators of the alternative style that has become so popular today?
Cowboys International was one of the most talented bands of its time, renowned for their inventive sound and visionary ideas in modern music. Founder Ken Lockie was an active contributor to the new wave and alternative music scene in the late 70s and 80s. After the release of The Original Sin and The Impossible (a solo album) Lockie became a member of Public Image Limited, cementing a relationship that began on their Metal Box, Second Edition album. And so, with the evolution of digital technology in the late 90s, Lockie formed his own label, Pnuma Recordings, and set about producing new music. After releasing Revisited, he knew that he had to recreate Cowboys International to give life to his musical ideas and to bring innovation and creativity back to modern rock.
The Backwards Life of Romeo offers a look at the past, reflection on the present, and plants the seed of musical ingenuity in each listener that looks deep into Cowboys Internationals message and style. With tracks like the soothingly ethereal Silent Sky and the playful, pseudo-60s classic Ready Steady Go, The Backwards Life of Romeo is an album that is sure to define a musical era, just as The Original Sin defined the scene so many years ago. For any fan looking to rediscover the true roots of modern and alternative rock, or just a listener interested in good music with an inventive twist, The Backwards Life of Romeo is the perfect album to add as a cornerstone to any collection. To request an interview with Cowboys International, please contact Rainmaker Publicity. Backwards Life Of Romeo,

This review is from: The Backwards Life of Romeo (Audio CD)
Disappointing effort from a group who was innovative on their first album. This collection sounds like bad pop music from a start-up group and not the folks who did Aftermath. Why hasn't the first album been released in CD format yet?
