4.0 out of 5 stars good
It isn't the greatest game out there but it is definitly a good way to pass the time. You can choose your own players, become a champion and even play a few mini-games to sharpen up after a break. It can be as bad or as good as you make it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baackyard basketball 2004, December 29, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Backyard Basketball 2004 (CD-ROM)
I think this game is really good. People say this is too easy but i am 11 and I play on hard mode and I lose sometimes It is deffinetly better then the first backyard basketball because the originial only had two pros and this has ten. This game has good pros and good pro selections but they could have had better people as well like Steve Francis, Baron Davis and Kobe Bryant. Some of the people in there have not very good attributes like Tim Duncan has no outside shot but in real life he is a good outside shooter and Pau Gasol has no outside shot but can make all of the three pointers he shoots. Making a shot is very easy from outside but inside shots are kinda difficult. This game has the same graphics and gameplay as Backyard Hockey which I like the gameplay but the graphics i don't like. I would reccomend this game for 5-12 year olds and if you want the ultimate team I would pick Tracy McGrady, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan as starters and reserves Yao Ming and Paul Peirce. Other than the bad graphics and the choosing of the pros and pro's attributes this is a very fun and good game.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!, November 3, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Backyard Basketball 2004 (CD-ROM)
This is the best game I ever played! It's much easier to make 3-Pointers, so you can have a better chance at winning. I got this game the day it came out. I have loved the Backyard Sports Since Backyard Baseball back in 1997. I love any kind of Humongous Entertainment game. This game has all new players, like Dirk Nowitzki, Yao Ming, Vince Carter, and many more. This is THE FUNNEST Backyard Sports game ever!

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks good... just like the original..., August 17, 2003

When Atari/Infogrames created Backyard Sports a few years ago, I thought of it as just a JOKE. But when I played the game on the computer, it was very fun. Something like a kid version of NBA Live 2004. If you're looking for a basketball computer game for you kids, this is it.

The original version will probably be just like the 2004 version, but new features will include
- Better and newer prefessional players
- Some new made up players
- Hopefully, better graphics
- The option to draft players

I've played NBA Live 2003 [] and I loved it so much, I decided to play it the whole night. So if you're looking for something just like a NBA Live 2003, without the hype, Backyard Basketball 2004 will probably look good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh, Man, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?, December 4, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Backyard Basketball 2004 (CD-ROM)
Why did you do this? You didn't even put Peja Stojakovic and you didn't even have freestyle superstars. I mean, EVERY BASKETBALL GAME WOULD BE INFINITY BETTER THAN THIS. You also should have put 82 games on the Backyard Basketball 2004 season schedule, and you should have picked:

Current NBA Players:

Kevin Garnett
LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Tracy McGrady
Shawn Marion
Dwyane Wade
Tim Duncan
Amare Stoudemire
Shaquille O'Neal
Paul Pierce
Rasheed Wallace
Steve Francis
Mike Bibby
Vince Carter
Allen Iverson

Old School Ballers:

From the 1950's

Paul Arizin
Bob Cousy
George Mikan
Bob Pettit
Dolph Schayes
Bill Sharman

From the 1960's

Elgin Baylor
Wilt Chamberlain
Dave Cowens
Billy Cunningham
David DeBusschere
Hal Greer
John Havlicek
Elvin Hayes
Sam Jones
Jerry Lucas
Oscar Robertson
Bill Russell
Nate Thurmond
Wes Unseld
Jerry West

From The 1970's

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Nate Archibald
Rick Barry
Julius Erving
Walt Fraizer
George Gervin
Elvin Hayes
Pete Maravich
Earl Monroe
Willis Reed
Bill Walton
Lenny Wilkens

From The 1980's

Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Sam Jones
Moses Malone
Kevin McHale
Robert Parish
Isiah Thomas
Dominique Wilkins
James Worthy

From The 1990's

Charles Barkley
Clyde Drexler
Patrick Ewing
Michael Jordan
Karl Malone
Hakeem Olajuwon
Scottie Pippen
David Robinson
and John Stockton

So, what do you think of DAT? DO IT FOR THE NEXT TIME YOU LAUNCH BACKYARD BASKETBALL!

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! I MEAN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 5, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Backyard Basketball 2004 (CD-ROM)
LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT: YOU GUYS MADE AN AWFUL GAME HERE. You had a lot of mistakes, which were these:::

- You need all 30 NBA Arenas, not just made-up ones of your own.
- You need these NBA Players:

Kevin Garnett
LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Tracy McGrady
Shawn Marion
Dwyane Wade
Tim Duncan
Amare Stoudemire
Shaquille O'Neal
Paul Pierce
Rasheed Wallace
Steve Francis
Vince Carter
Allen Iverson

Well, what about having Old School Ballers?

Charles Barkley
Larry Bird (Goodies)
Wilt (The Stilt) Chamberlain (Goodies)
Bob Cousy
Clyde (The Glide) Drexler
Julius (Dr. J) Erving (Goodies)
Patrick Ewing
Walt Fraizer
George Gervin (Goodies)
Earvin (Magic) Johnson
Michael Jordan
Karl Malone
Moses Malone (Goodies)
George Mikan (Goodies)
Chris Mullin
Hakeem Olajuwon
Scottie Pippen
David Robinson (Goodies)
Bill Russell (Goodies)
John Stockton
Isiah Thomas (Goodies)
Bill Walton
Lenny Wilkens
Dominique Wilkins (Goodies)
and James Worthy

You also made mistakes in Season Play:::

- You let us draft only 5 players instead of 12.
- You had only 14 games in Regular Season, not 82 games.
- You need 4-7 games in each round of the playoffs, not just 1.
- There should be an All-Star Weekend (just like the NBA one) in the middle of the season.
- You should let us have a franchise just like an NBA franchise, and YOU NEED TO INCLUDE A DRAFT.
- Next time, you should also try to put the season from the last Tuesday of October (or the first Tuesday of November if too early) to the third Wednesday in April.

You also made mistakes in Appearances:::

- Depending on a player's height, you should put them anywhere from 6"0 to 7"6.

- Depending on a player's weight, you should put them anywhere from 150 lbs. to 350 lbs.

- In uniforms, the uniforms should appear like their real life NBA format.

- The characters should look 3-D, not 2-D and the NBA players should look like their real-life themselves.

- The pros should have pro photos of them playing basketball.

You also made mistakes in stations applicable for this game:

- This time you should have put PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and the PC for stations applicable for this game.

- Next time (if 2005), you should put PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo GameCube, and the PC for stations applicable for this kind of next edition.

- Next time (if 2006 or later), you should put PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Nintendo Revoulotion and the regular PC for stations applicable for this kind of next edition.

So I add it up, and you have...

16 MISTAKES! UNBELIEVABLE! NEXT TIME YOU SHOULD TRY AND FIX THESE MISTAKES SO BACKYARD BASKETBALL WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER GAME AND SO MUCH MORE PEOPLE WOULD BE BUYING IT AND WHEN IT COMES, IF YOU DO THAT, IT'LL BE SO POPULAR.
