Sitting on my porch I can now tell what bird is singing it's song. The audio is excellant. The book also has clear photographs and great details so that you can easily identify each bird. The one downside is if you live in the Central US, you need to purchase both the Western and Eastern North America books in order to find all the birds in this region.

The illustrations & descriptions for each bird are done very well. The sound quality of the individual bird songs is excellent. This book is a great way for anyone to begin learning about common backyard birds and their songs.

A great book with an innovative way to engage the children in learning about birds. A descriptive passage is written about each bird. Also an authentic audible sound can be created simply by pushing a button. Great for adults as well.

My mom got this for my son and we soon discovered that the birds in the trees will sing back and forth with you. You push the button for the right song and the book "sings", then the birds respond, etc. Its really neat! In my area we mostly have robins, house finches and flickers that respond, but summer is almost here so maybe there will be more soon. What a great way to experience nature! Plus it uses 3 AAA batteries so they can be replaced.

My grandson received this book as a gift and I had to have one. We recently moved to a home with a yard full of trees and bushes, a great habitat to attract and feed birds. I have been able to identify some of them by their song and the gorgeous pictures displayed in this book. I believe I have just developed a new and enjoyable hobby.

This is a great book for someone new to bird watching. The best thing about this book is that it plays more than one kind of call for each bird. In some cases it also includes the sound of the juvenile. I recommend this to anyone who is curious about what birds they hear in their back yard.

This is the bird identification book I, personally, have been waiting for all my life. Easy to use, easy to share with kids to introduce them to the joy of hearing that bird and then seeing it. Easy to share with bird experts, who love filling in whatever is always left out.And a joy to share with anyone in between (like myself and my friends) who just thinks birds are so much fun. This was a gift for avid birdwatchers who still seemed pleased with the book; I'd heard the author speak about it, and how as we get older sometimes seeing the markings birders depend on gets harder, and how useful knowing the songs can be. Our recipients reported delight so that seems to confirm the appropriateness of book for all levels of birders.

As my wife and I had gorwn older we have come to enjoy the pleasure of watching the birds (we've stoped to smell the roses ~smile~) One of the things we have needed to make our birding more pleasing is more education, more information. the Backyard Birding Guide gave us both picturs and sounds that we could use to identify what we are seeing. Sometimes it is the sound itself that leads us to what we know is there ~smile~. for the price we paid the pleasue we have received is well worth it!
