Excellent resource!,

I found this book at the library, and liked it so much that I'll be buying my own copy shortly. I have several books on medicinal herbs. This is the best one I've seen for telling you exactly how to prepare and use the herbal remedies in the book. She doesn't cover everything, but it's a very good beginning, and her directions on preparation and use will apply to other herbs that are mentioned in other books.

A great little book with most of the common plants locally available detailed. It has a description, uses listing and recipes for each plant. Also included are common contra-indications. A very handy resource to have around when the flu bug come buzzing by!

This book is very cool. While being quite technical, it is also very user friendly. My beau already knows much about herbs and their uses, but even he found some pretty cool, neat and new things in it.

This book is very informative, but simple and not overwhelming at all, which is great. Especialy if you are a beginner. The plants in there are very common and I'm familiar with most. Originally I got the book from the library, but then decided that it's a must-have book. So I just ordered one!

I'm a book junkie. Yes, I admit it. But I have gotten more picky, which is why I hesitated for at least a week before ordering this book. And yes, I'm glad I gave in to the urge. I have read it through once and am destined to read it bit by bit many more times. There is enough science to satisfy the nurse in me, but also a strong connection to the more esoteric aspect of being an herbalist. My formal herbal study has been in the Celtic tradition so Julie Bruton-Seal's selection of plants is ideal for me. A large number of her favorite plants are growing near me. She has given me a different view of many different plant properties to consider. My back yard is my major pharmacy, and this lovely resource will broaden its scope and capability. The Celts had a strong thread of practicality that included using what was close at hand. I am following my roots and appreciate additional guidance in the journey.

Stunning Photos, lots of details,
This review is from: Backyard Medicine: Harvest and Make Your Own Herbal Remedies (Paperback)
I first came to growing herbs and alternative medicine when living in Michigan in the 1990s and been an interested in it since then. This is a stunning book, filled with great high-quality photos, showing the herbs not only in their habitat but also close-up shots. Also, gives lots of details about the plants themselves-their habitats and needs. A handsome reference work, you'll want to go back to again and again.

The book covers a very very short list of medicinal herbs that are mostly common in Great Britain. Presentation of information, print quality and photographs are very good, unlike some books these days that appear to run off a cheap copier. I like the overview of herbal applications. References are made to modern herbalists comments on various uses of herbs. I would like to see a volume 2.

This book arrived in a timely fashion and I was happy when I was able to look through the pages. I haven't read it cover to cover yet but eventually I will. I am still surprised to find out that I had some of these "weeds" growing in my yard and never knew it. This is a very informative book, can't wait to learn more.

I've only scanned through this book [very quality photos and easy lay out], but as a bookseller I've sold a lot of it to knowledge herbalist and gardener sorts. They are happy with the book, so it suggest good book overall.
