Book Description

Music Player Storybook
Join the lovable Backyardigans-Austin, Tasha, Tyrone, Pablo, and Uniqua-as they share four fun-filled adventures. Based on the popular children's TV show, The Backyardigans Music Player Storybook combines imaginative storytelling with song. Follow the Backyardigans as they search for pirate treasure, visit ancient Egypt, explore the frozen north, and learn the secret of the Soccer Monster. Each story is accompanied by a six-song music disc-24 entertaining songs in all-which readers can play on their music player. Prompts on each page tell readers when to play each song as they read this delightful collection of tales.

In this deluxe storybook and play CD pack, toddlers and preschoolers have a chance to hum along with tunes inspired by Nick Jr.'s wildly popular show, Backyardigans. Includes music player with handle and 4 music discs.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's music not songs, November 5, 2006
This review is from: Backyardigans Music Player Storybook (Hardcover)
i was disappointed in this book cd player. i was so excited thinking it would play the songs from the show. my daughter really likes the backyardigans show. the book part of this is good. my daughter enjoys having this as a bedtime story book. it has 4 backyardigans stories in it. my daughter liked having her own portable cd player, but it only plays the 4 cd's from the book and there is only music on them and no actual songs like on the show. this might work better for an older child (my little girl is 2 1/2.) an older child might like following the directions of pressing the cd player every time it says, so that the background music changes for that part of the story. my daughter didn't like that there were all sorts of rules involved in reading the story. it just didn't work for her, so we read the book without the music and when we first got it she played with the cd player for a little while. the price is very low, so it is a worthwhile buy. and for an older child it might be a lot more worthwhile/enjoyable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Major disappointment!!! Great book, lousy music player., November 10, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Backyardigans Music Player Storybook (Hardcover)
I agree with the last review. Only, I bought this when it first came out, so it wasn't what I would call cheap. What a waste of money!! NO Backyardigans songs whatsoever, just background music- I don't even think it was from the shows. Also, the player was stuck to the book with one of those plastic tie-straps, so here I was thinking it was removable and cut the strap only to find that the darn thing was GLUED to the book and took a big chunk out of the paper behind it when I tried to take it off! This is stupid because the battery cover is in the back of the player, so I should like to know how would one CHANGE the battery without ruining the book? Other than that, the stories are good, but now the book is ugly with that big torn empty space where the player was stuck on. The stories are a little bit long for toddlers- too many words, but good for a little bit older kids. 4 stories- Princess CleoTasha (who never says please and thank you), Monster Detectives (with Pablo the soccer monster), Pirate Treasure (two pirate teams band together to find treasure), and the Snow Fort(Ski Patrol to the Rescue!). Great book, lousy music player.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Gadget!, January 7, 2007
This review is from: Backyardigans Music Player Storybook (Hardcover)
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas, since she loves playing songs on the radio - I had no idea what to expect from it, though. The "CD player" sounds like it's playing just a bunch of .mid files, so I wouldn't exactly call it a "CD player" - more like a music box with plastic disks to imitate CDs. It's really a great idea, though, for little kids and my daughter absolutely LOVES the thing. She played with it for almost an hour on Christmas (she's just turned 2, so things she can control really get her going).
I'm not sure why the recommended ages are 9-12; I would think something like this is more geared towards my daughter's age group - maybe a little older, because the book's stories are long for her. A 9-year-old would already have much more sophisticated taste in music (and probably their own REAL CD players), and I wouldn't call the music box a "CD player", because that's probably a bit deceptive, BUT I still have to give this toy 4 stars, because my daughter will still sit down for a really long time just playing with it and switching out the CDs.
I'll have to get something else for the actual Backyardigans songs - I really wish someone would come out with a gadget for two year olds that could play .mp3's.
