2.0 out of 5 stars Really disapointing compared to other episodes
My 2 1/2 year old daughter is a huge Backyardigan's fan. She has every DVD and watches them more intently than any other children's program. Each episode is filled with creative stories, uplifting songs and fun dance sequences.
This episode is definitely at the bottom of the list. The story line is mediocre and not filled with the cute and clever dialog and lyrics...

This review is from: The Backyardigans: Tale of the Mighty Knights (DVD)
The Backyardigans intro gets a new look and sound for the hour-long rock opera episode "The Tale of the Mighty Knights", which has intrepid knights Uniqua and Tyrone performing egg-sitting duties for King Pablo. Although this isn't egg-zactly the hardest assignment, the mighty knights approach the job with great professionalism, and all goes well until the egg goes on a roll.

Scrambling off in pursuit, the knights face hard-boiled characters like Austin the Grabbin' Goblin and Tasha the Flighty Fairy, until the grande finale unfolds on Dragon Mountain, where it's out of the frying pan and into the fire. There's also a guest appearance by Broadway performer Adam Pascal.

The second episode is "Blazing Paddles", where Pablo the Ping Pong Bandit puts the wind up Sheriff Uniqua and the citizens of Ping Pong Mesa, until a masked stranger wielding a cactus paddle blows into town and proves that being selfish ain't worth a hill of beans. This one is set to Arabic pop music.

The third episode is "Garbage Trek", and you don't need Vulcan logic to determine that it has a Star Trek theme. Set to Jazz-funk music, Captain Tasha and her crew mates Uniqua and Austin boldly set off to gather the garbage of the Universe where no man has gone before, only to be stymied by evil Moosians Tyrone and Pablo, who are on a garbage-napping mission.

Although the episodes are as clever as always, this one is slightly slower in tempo, and may not be as appealing to younger children as the previous DVDs. A must-have for Backyardigans fans, but maybe not the best one to start off your collection.

Rated: 4.5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of Fun, January 16, 2008
This review is from: The Backyardigans: Tale of the Mighty Knights (DVD)
I make no secret of the fact that my 4-year-old isn't the only one in the family who adores this show. My husband, daughter, and I watched this new movie with great anticipation and it did not let us down. The movie is chock full of catchy tunes that Gen Xer parents will appreciate as they are influenced by 80s music. My husband and I also enjoyed the silly egg-related jokes that were woven throughout the movie ("Our egg has been poached!") and the movie features the world's cutest dragon. In the words of my husband, "I want that dragon!" The production values of the movie are also really high and full of beautifully colored and rendered forests, mountains, and a lava-filled cave.

We DVR'd this when it was on TV and my 3 year old daughter loves it! She loves to act out all the scenes with her backyardigan dolls, and she uses a play easter egg as the egg they are all hunting for. The songs are rock-opera style and very catchy. Unfortunately most of them get stuck in my head for days at a time, but that's my problem. :-)

They've done it again! All 3 episodes on this DVD are excellent.

Tale of the Mighty Knights is an epic rock opera double-length feature. The songs are incredibly catchy, and the art is actually quite wonderful as well! My 6 yr old particularly loves the lyrics.

Blazing Paddles is a lot of fun too - the music is great and the kids loves the "costumes."

Garbage Trek is a kick for any parents, since it's a Star Trek spoof - even down to Tasha's phrasing in tribute to William Shatner. I really like the music in this one - very funky - and my kids are already acting it out.

I think the only mis-fire these guys have had was last year's Movers and Shakers - otherwise, the hits keep on coming from the team at Nelvana. Can't wait for High Flying Adventures!

This episode is definitely at the bottom of the list. The story line is mediocre and not filled with the cute and clever dialog and lyrics we've grown acustom to. Rock opera style music (somewhere between Queen and Meatloaf) both artists I appreciate but this comes up way short. My Daughter hasn't asked to watch it since we first viewed it. The SuperSpy extended episode is a hundred times better! If you are just getting started, I recommend SuperSpy, Mission to Mars and Surfs Up as our all time favorites. Hope this helps. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Year Old Can't Get Enough, February 4, 2008

We recorded this movie when it originally came on Nick. And I'm so glad we did. My 3 year old son wants to watch it everyday! The length is perfect for this age group, about 45 min or so. I really liked Super Spy because of the 007 references, but my son can't get enough the of Mighty Knights and the fantasy world with the castles and dragon mountain. After watching, he is always a knight or dragon running around the house. As with any Backyardigans product, always the best!

4.0 out of 5 stars Need a quickstart - way too many ads!, January 5, 2011
This review is from: The Backyardigans: Tale of the Mighty Knights (DVD)
This thing advertises a huge number of kid products and won't let you get to the menu. Kids are impatient and exposed to ads so they can ask for more, More, MORE! Very rotten beginning. Backyardigans material is excellent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not our favorite, March 24, 2008
This review is from: The Backyardigans: Tale of the Mighty Knights (DVD)
My 2 year old daughter, who loves the Backyardigans, received this as a gift. We were very excited to watch it, but the music was not the usual upbeat Backyardigan fare. It is described as a "rock operetta" - and she really didn't like it (and I couldn't blame her!) The other episodes on the DVD were good, however, so we give this a 3 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Five Year Old Son LOVES This One!, April 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Backyardigans: Tale of the Mighty Knights (DVD)
I will admit that this episode of Backyardigans had to grow on me (and I even loved Knight's Tale so had high hopes for a rock opera with knights), but my son took to it IMMEDIATELY. He has watched it over and over and likes the songs, the jokes, the characters, all of it. I wonder if maybe this is a Backyardigans that appeals more to a slightly older child since I noted that some reviews involving younger viewers were more negative? At any rate, the shorter episodes that go along with the Mighty Knights also grew on me. If you have a preschooler who is a big Backyardigans fan, I think this could well be another hit for them. I appreciated all the reviews (positive and negative) and am adding my review as one more positive. In fact, I found myself singing the songs while washing dishes the other night and right now Mighty Knights is the only DVD my son wants to watch.
