Great sound, nice companion to Screaming Blue Murder,

This new John Sykes album is a welcome addition to his live catalogue. Features same rhythm section from his Thin Lizzy live album but adding Derek Sherinian on keyboards (and minus Scott Gorham, of course). The concert is well-recorded although I would have liked a little bigger lead guitar sound. One annoyance is that the album has been mixed to fade out the audience response after each track. As such, it doesn't feel like a continuous show. I was a little disappointed in the album not including any tracks from Nuclear Cowboy, but other solo material such as "Look In My Eyes" and "I Don't Want To Live My Life" come across very well next to Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy classics. In the end, one should review the content that is on the record rather than that which is not, and I quite like what I hear on this one.

Well, I watched the newest episode of That Metal Show and this was the pick of the week, which led me to buying the mp3 download version of this. I always dug John Sykes and thought Blue Murder was great as well. This is a completely awsome release. Such a great live album, and who would of thought that he could pull off the David Coverdale vocals as well as he does. So glad to have found this and cant wait for some more Sykes with Portnoy behind him.

Sykes does a great job on vocals and guitar. I was really surprised at how well he sings the Whitesnake songs. This CD was mixed very well, has a great sound and is filled with excellent songs and terrific guitar work. Highly Recommended.

"Bad Boy Live" is the second live album by John Sykes and `Blue Murder', originally released in 2004, standing also as his latest release to date. Much like the previous live album, `Screaming Blue Murder', "Bad Boy Live" captures guitar virtuoso John Sykes and his group during their Japanese tour of 2004.
The line up features Sykes on guitar and vocals, long serving band-mate bassist extraordinaire Marco Mendoza, drum icon Tommy Aldridge and key-player Derek Sherinian. The set list is a mixture of Sykes' solo material and classics from the 1987 `Whitesnake' album as well as a couple of tunes from his Thin Lizzy/Lynott days. It has to be clear that the production, mixing and mastering of the album is amongst the greatest to be featured on a live album. The emphasis is clearly on John's guitar and vocals while drums, keyboards and bass are also captured in detail. You will easily be able to follow Mendoza's distinct playing throughout the set-list. It has to be addressed that the band performs all songs to the letter, totally respectful of the original studio versions while adding a great deal of their own in the performances. One happily finds that John is more than comfortable singing "Whitesnake" and "Thin Lizzy" songs, his vocals are convincing and precise on each and every song on "Bad Boy Live"-the only minor exception being the vocal intro of `Crying in the rain'. On the other hand `Bad Boys', `Thunder and lightning' `Cold Sweat' `We all fall down', are songs where Sykes and co fire on all cylinders, making for master-class performances. Equally impressive is the fact that two of the most intriguing compositions of the set `Baby Please don't Leave me" and "Still of the Night" lose nothing of their original atmosphere as the band delivers with unmistakable feeling. Conclusively `Bad Boy Live' is an incredible live set, if a bit short, bringing together songs from some of the most renowned hard rock bands supported by masterful performances and genuine live feeling.

I'll never forget my first Thin Lizzy show. It was about 10 years after Phil Lynott had died, and my first thought was, "How in the hell can anyone imitate Phil Lynott?" Turns out, John Sykes has it dialed in. (and autographed my copy of Live/Life -- the only autograph he gave. Woo - hoo!) Does a very good David Coverdale too. So -- if iffiness about the vocals is shying you away from this album, don't let it. Sykes nails every tune.
More importantly, John Sykes is perhaps the most underrated heavy metal guitarist of all time. This live album captures his ferocity and his tenderness, and the inclusion of Crying in the Rain is vital -- this song is the only reason that I am not ashamed to admit that I saw Quiet Riot -- Whitesnake opened, and this song blew doors. This is a very good recording of a great live performance, and the song selection is excellent.

I ordinarily don't like LIVE releases, because the production is often not as good as it is on studio releases. Having said that, the production on BAD BOY LIVE is awesome. The playing (drumming, bass, and of course guitar) is great all the way around... it's mixed really well, and everything is crystal clear. I was blown away at how well John Sykes performs those awesome WHITESNAKE numbers! The man performs those David Coverdale vocals effortlessly, and he sounds DAMN good! In addition, the guitar playing is frenzied and energetic... just like the studio recordings! I was really impressed. All WHITESNAKE numbers are exceptional, and the other songs are great, too. I bought this here on Amazon because I couldn't find the CD to save my life... and I didn't want to wait for it to be mailed. All in all, this is a great release. Highly recommended for metal musicians, and guitar players: they will find it inspirational. I just wish I had some kind of liner notes to go with my digital downloads!

This album can be called "Screamin' Blue Murder Vol II". The lucky guys who like me own the original "Screamin Blue Murder" live album know what I'm talking about. Another screamin' live album from the greatest rocker of them all!! This "Bad Boy Live!" conceptually, can be considered the sequel of that first album (now available only as very expensive "old stock" on the used market). It is a live date recorded in Japan which recollects some of the greatest things Sykes did in his music history from Thin Lizzy to Whitesnake to Blue Murder to Sykes. John this time put together another hell of a band. Marco Mendoza bass, Tommy Aldridge durms, Derek Sherinian keys. An incredible tight band! The program is too short to really give a full picture of the whole history of the man and to give justice to an incredible songwriter and 360° performer, but anyway, this is what we have. Fantastic songs from all his bands (except Tygers of Pan Tang actually) and albums in a full shred devastating performance! The date is recorded very well and John and the guys gave all their best in front of an enthusiastic audience! This album is a threat from the beginning to the end. An incredible energy will invest you like a full blowing tornado! SYKES IS THE MAN! B U Y - T H I S!

Listen up - John Sykes plays the most wicked riffs known to mankind AND he sings everything to perfection AND he solos like a possesed guitar god. Listen to this CD so that you can say you've experienced the live legend of John Sykes! Whitesnake's 1987 album is all Sykes and this is the proof. Including more Blue Murder songs could have made this an even more spectacular live experience.
