Don't Get Me Wrong, But...,

This review is from: Bad Boys Best (Audio CD)
I was noticing that quite a few reviewers and fans of this popular 80's Euro dance group wonder why an American label has not picked them up or distributed their music stateside. Four words. Stiff competition & younger audience. For those of us who grew up listening to the likes of groups like Bad Boys Blue in the 80's have had to make room, unfortunatley, to the more "hipper" younger groups like N'Sync and Back Street Boys.this is what teens and younger kids want (at least most of them). Unless BBB was to go alternative or rock, they would get lost in the shuffle here in the U.S.Just like another popular female music Euro artist named Sandra, unforntunately there's no more room or younger audience demand for this music anymore; It comes down to the almighty American marketing dollar and question, "Are European artists likely to be more succesful and cover a larger area around the world (profit and artistic-wise in Europe and Asia) or just in the U.S.A? This compilation displays the best of the best by Bad Boys Best for the mid to late 80's and nothing more. Without insulting my fellow Americans, let's just say the global European/Asian market covers more territory with regards to foreign countries having a more relaxed mind on artistry and not so much focus on the mighty dollar...

As an American, I've never even heard of this band until I started listening to Italodisco via internet radio a while back. That said, it's a shame that this band is largely unknown here. That's largely due the American mainstream's attitude towards anything "disco" in the 1980s.
While this was the 1st of a number of greatest hits collections released by this band, this one best focuses of the band's early years with its original lineup (may God bless the souls of UK born Trevor Taylor & American Andrew Thomas, the 2 members of the original lineup who're no longer with us) which many fans consider to be the band's golden era. The songs are typical German dance music of the time; upbeat danceable love songs (including an interesting cover of Billy Ocean's "Love Really Hurts Without You"), most of which are lyrically well written & will stick in your head for a while. A bit of note: the song lengths provided by this web page is a bit misleading. "L.O.V. E. in My Car" for example is 30 seconds longer than the info provided in the sample. While the closer, (which was the last single to feature the original lineup) is its 12" version, which is nearly 2 minutes longer than the length said in its sample. That said, while there are newer compilations from this band, this is of the best, esp. if you're mainly interested in the songs from the group's early years. As of the writing of this review, Bad Boys Blue still exists as a duo with John McInerney, the only surviving member of the band's original lineup & Mozambique born Carlos Ferreira, still performing to sellout crowds in Europe.
