Blockbuster star Will Smith and comedian Martin Lawrence shoot rapid-fire lines and bullets in this cop caper directed by action director Michael Bay. Mike Lowry (Smith) is a smooth-talking ladies man and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) is happily married to his job as well as his wife. As partners in the narcotics division of the Miami police department, they have a reputation as two cops who don't play by the rules. When two pallets full of seized heroin are stolen from the police station, Mike and Marcus are put on the case. A girlfriend of Mike's gets caught in the crossfire and her roommate, Julie (Téa Leoni), becomes a material witness. She calls the police pleading only to talk to Mike. Mike isn't around so to convince her to cooperate, Marcus assumes Mike's identity, complicating matters as the trio take down the bad guys.

There's plenty of pyrotechnics for the special-effects fans, complicated gun battle choreography, and a large-scale dance-club scene complete with exotic dancers--a device that's becoming some what of a recurring charter in films directed by Bay. Lawrence and Smith (who had yet been elevated to multimillion dollar box-office status) deliver with comedic, foul-mouthed finesse. Téa Leoni gives a strong performance as Julie, and Bad Boys also has good supporting roles from Theresa Randle (Spawn, The Big Hit) as Marcus's neglected wife and Tchéky Karyo (Addicted to Love) as the mastermind behind the heist. --Shannon Gee

From director Michael Bay (The Rock, Armageddon) and the production team of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer (Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun) comes a thrill ride of explosive action from beginning to end. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence team up as partners in crime, crime-fighting that is, in this action-packed flick about a couple of good guys who are real Bad Boys One hundred million dollars worth of confiscated heroin has just been jacked from police custody. Once the career bust of Detective Mike Lowery (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence), the missing drugs now threaten to shutdown the narcotics division of the Miami Police Department. When the drug investigation turns deadly, the murderers kidnap the only witness, a beautful police informant (Tea Leoni) and close friend of the boys, which makes things get personal! Fast cars, a gorgeous woman and non-stop action make Bad Boys a guaranteed good time!

5.0 out of 5 stars A better disc for a great movie April 27, 2000
Format:DVD
What can I say about this movie, but the fact that Bad boys is one of my all time favourite films. It stars Will Smith (the Frensh Prince of Bell Air) and Martin Lawerance (Martain/Blue Streak) as two Miami cops, both are two very funny actors who took to the action role very well (of course Will Smith as continued on so in this role in films like ID4 and Men in black). The film produces great action and boasting good soundtrack(songs such as Shy guy) from the talents of a great director(This film really started Michael Bay's carear and is still one of his best).I know its not everyones cup of tea, but if you like your movies fast, sexy, loud and action packed buy the DVD now! This special edition had loads of extras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Whatcha Gonna Do When They Come For You... March 13, 2006
Format:DVD
When it comes to action films there is one man that has come to be known as Hollywood's go-to-guy when producing high-octane action/adventure fare. That man is Jerry Bruckheimer, "Top Gun", "Days of Thunder", and "Con Air" are just a few of the outstanding action films Bruckheimer has produced throughout the last 20 years. In 1995, Bruckheimer teamed up with director Michael Bay to make a film that focuses on two hip, young cops in Miami, Florida. To bring the freshness needed for the roles of Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, Bay and Bruckheimer looked to the talents of two popular young actors made famous by two very big television shows. The actors chosen were Will Smith (TV's "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") and Martin Lawrence (TV's "Martin").

"Bad Boys" story as stated above, focuses on two Miami Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence), who after confiscating one hundred million dollars worth of heroine come under fire when the drugs wind up stolen. With the drugs missing, the two lead detectives under investigation by Internal Affairs, it appears that this particular narcotics division of the Miami Police Department will be closed down for good. So, with no one on their side except for a young woman (Tea Leoni) who happened to witness a murder linked to the drugs, Mike and Marcus must strike out on their own to reaquire the drugs and bring down those responsible, if they succeed they can clear their names and keep their badges for another day, but if not it may just mean jail for the detectives.

Many critics were skeptical about whether or not two actors famous for doing comedy on network television shows could pull of being the leads in a high-profile action movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable stuff! August 10, 2006
Format:DVD
Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay make an excellent team! When they work together, explosions rock the screen, profanity is spewed between characters, and corpses far outnumber the amount of lines spoken. This is one of Will Smith's early ventures in film, and to be honest, I think this is his breakthrough role as Mike Lowrey, a playboy cop with a taste for gritty gunfights. Martin Lawrence is hilarious as Mike's partner, Marcus Burnett, a family man whose gig constantly interferes with his family life. Tea Leoni is okay, but not great, and her role seems a bit weird, as though it was just randomly stuck in the plot. The bad guy is a typical villain, with few lines and a thick accent. The action scenes are, of course, Bruckheimer-worthy, and so you wont be disappointed. The cinematography adds to the film's good parts. Overall, a movie that is fun, brainless stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty fun action July 5, 2006
Format:DVD
This movie is very fun and full of action. If you can get past the cursing, it's well worth it. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are almost too much fun as cop partners who go deep undercover to recover stolen police evidence (drugs). Tea Leoni is also hilarious in the film and serves as a great counterpoint to the cocky buddy cops.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, But Tristar Needs to 'SUPERBIT' this title! December 30, 2002
By A Customer
Format:DVD
Though the film is extremely entertaining and the documentary is also enjoyable, the studio needs to release a 'SUPERBIT' version (higher quality video standard that utilizes space on the disc normally reserved for special features for picture quality instead) of this title like they have for 'Vertical Limit', 'Dracula', and 'Johnny Neumonic' to truly earn the 5th star.

Unfortunately, Bad Boys looks grainy on a 65" rear projection Widescreen TV when compared to high quality mastered titles like Star Wars, LOTR, and The Rock: The Critereon Edition and Superbit titles, which still looks razor sharp at this size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lawrence + Smith = Action Packed Thriller May 24, 2001
Format:VHS Tape
All that I can say about this movie is "Wow." I have seen this movie several times and has earned the number one spot in my favorite list of movies. The special effects and camera views for 1995 are immaculate. Especially during the last scene where the car chase was taking place. The camera view that sticks in my minds is where is shows the tire spinning, and you hear the outrageously loud whine of the engine, which compares to the beginning where Mike Lowry was driving the car right before they got jacked. This all out great movie will definetly not stay laying on the shelf, it will constantly be played guarunteed. Joey

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Action! January 28, 2001
Format:DVD
Yeah, Bad Boys is a really sweet action film--as are all of Michael Bay's movies--but I think the cars deserve most of the credit. I mean, at the end, we've got a Porsche 911--black, of course--chasing down the badguy in the most perfect car ever to be shown in a movie: an AC Shelby Cobra 427 with white racing stripes. That is the best scene in the movie, where Lawrence and Smith are chasing down the badguy (what's his name?) on an airport runway. Easily the saddest part of the movie is when the Cobra hits a brick wall and is mangled (*tear*). Well, anyway, it should be easy to see that, having Will Smith *and* Martin Lawrence, it is a funny movie, too. Don't get me wrong, it's not really an action comedy like Money Talks or Blue Streak, but it does have some hilarious parts. I guess the comedy is a little stronger than in The Rock, which, if you've seen it, you'll know has some funny scenes, too. Anyone that likes any of the movies I described should see this movie...and if you've already seen it...see it again!

1.0 out of 5 stars usually a fan. Not this time
After the initial 10 minute setup, the movie was a bust. The chemistry between Smith and Lawrence just didn't work. It was as if they both just wanted the filming to be over.
