3.0 out of 5 stars worth checking out...for its price, November 17, 2004

I picked this game up the other day, and was stoked to see that they finally made a "Bad Boys" game. Truthfully, though, I was fairly disappointed with it. The gameplay is a lot of fun, but the voice-overs were a huge letdown to me, because I had been waiting for a game based from the movies for a while, now...and it's not even Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. But...for $15 I guess I can't expect it all, right? It is definitely worth checking out, if you're into the whole shoot-em-up genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Bad Boys" Miami Takedown Review, October 2, 2004

I was able to pick this up at an amazingly low price for a new release and I've got to say it was easily worth the price. This Playstation 2 shoot-em up is based on the "Bad Boys" movies starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith as wise-crackin' narcortics cops. The game follows a similiar theme as the films with partners Mike Lowry and Marcus Bernett hunting down Russian gangsters while trading bad jokes. The game play is somewhat similar to the "Time Crisis" arcade games and is surprisingly addictive after a couple tries. The game's only big downfall is the horrible voice actors who sound nothing like their big screen counterparts. At some points, they actually sound like Southern biggots trying to do mock impressions of Black people. I kid you not. Other than the awful voices, the game is a lot of fun and I recommend to any fan of the "Bad Boys" movies.

1.0 out of 5 stars One Hit Does It... A Review, September 13, 2010

This review is from: Bad Boys Miami Takedown (Video Game)
This game review by no means express the viewpoint of the author against the characters of which the game depicts or the actors therein.

Let's face facts, a game is suppose to be fun, wholesome and empowering to the extent that you can play again and again without becoming bored or incriminated. But this game stopped short of wholesome values that contemporary games produced within the last ten years generally display.

I first played the game and obviously got 'stuck' in various stages; but after I passed and completed the entire board, the game snapped and went into game convulsions. Games today are built on a slightly more sophisticated game engine, some which actually allows modifications and additional characters, props and scenes. But this game became "EXTREMELY POSSESSIVE" after all of the levels were completed, something that today's game developer kits consider being 'daemon' and should be omitted.

One alternative from today's games, anything from the Madden 2005 on up franchise. They are not shooter games, but at least they won't quick on you.

As far as the script and storyboard, the game plays well and could entertain players not looking for to many player opts (specifications, technical data, logistical reports, etc.). Basically, you play one of the two main characters, Mike or Marcus as you track down gang members to the drug lab and headquarters. Each level is a different gang and a little bit more difficult. The controller may throw most PS users, especially the duck and shoot options.

The soundtrack and dialogue are definitively 1990'ish; if you want, you can zero out the audio and dialogue while only leaving the sound effects.

The graphics were state of the art when the game was first released. But in comparing to today's GPU-friendly layouts, it is apparent that the developers were a little ambiguous about their product. Another alternative, if you are looking for shooter games would be 'Scarface- The World is Yours'. Although set in the 1980's, it was released in 2005 and has a slightly more intuitive game engine than this one.

The best part of the game is the shooting range. You can go in and choose which set and weapon you want to use and keep playing without interruption.

And finally, CERO. If you should reach it, the last level has a henchman named 'Cero' that appears to come directly from Resident Evil. You will have to use the duck and shoot moves here, so anticipate losing a lot of ammunition...

To summarize, this game is generally a platform for its production company to cover legal and closing costs from the movie it is based upon. It is not the best after school hang out and censorship has dominated it from the inside out. In the event a major studio releases a newer version, (along with the movie)it may be exonerated; but sorry gang, it should stay on the shelf.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD DOESN'T EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THIS CHAOTIC MESS... 2 OUT OF 10, March 13, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bad Boys Miami Takedown (Video Game)
Wow Crave Entertainment! Yet another kind of game you can't make! First you can't make religious games (The Bible Game, Larry Boy and the Bad Apple) and you can't make action titles (This game and Trigger Man). I found this in a bargain bin for ten dollars, and wow it sure does provide a lot of suck for my buck. This game is based on a film that I've never seen, but it generally seemed to be liked by people. This game was obviously made on a budget, judging by the severe lack of quality in both graphics and gameplay. But I've played budget titles that were cheaper and a lot more fun to play. Trust me, with a PS2 at hand, there are literally hundreds of awesome games before your eyes that are cheaper than this. This game really shows how a licensed game can go beyond bad to the point of where it's much worse than most of the licensed games you'll find. Now let's review this s*** bucket.
WHAT THE GAME IS: A poorly designed third-person action title based on the 1999 film. You play as two different narcotics cops; Mike Lowry and Marcus Bernett who get involved and are now waging war against the Russian mob who are selling a new and mysterious drug.
GRAPHICS: OH MY GOD! This game looks like a hideous PSone budget title! It literally could have been done on that console it looks so bad. The textures are muddy and blurry. The character designs are blocky and look somewhat melted like an action figure put in a microwave. The animation is also reminiscent of the PSone, which is definitely not a good thing at all. Even the CGI cutscenes look bad! The level designs are a nightmare and the enemies generally look the same. The only thing that looks good is when you blow stuff up This would have been an embarassment on the PSone. There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the worst-looking PS2 games I've ever seen.
MUSIC: Generally consists of annoying, crappy hip hop or rap, or the occasional sucky musical score. The music is disastrous and there is no quality to it at all.
SOUND: The actors were atrocious and the dialogue was extremely bad (Though not as bad as Shadow the Hedgehog or Drake of the 99 Dragons). None of the dialogue is believable and it sounds really bad especially since it seems to try to be a gangster game; "You ain't gonna throw up are ya?" "Not yet." "I told you not to f*** around!" etc., etc. The dialogue only gets worse. By the way, if you're a fan of the film, none of the voice-actors reprise their roles from what I can tell, you instead get really crappy ones instead. Awful, awful, awful!
GAMEPLAY: On top of having a terrible storyline and horrendous dialogue, this game also has unbelievably awful gameplay. Not only does this game look like a PSone budget title, IT PLAYS LIKE A PSONE BUDGET TITLE. Moving your character is like trying to maneuver a tank because you have to make him turn like a tank in order to go somewhere. R1 fires your weapon, while L1 reloads your weapon. Your primary weapon is a pistol for both characters and the pistol has unlimited ammo. You get other weapons such as AK-47s, UZIs, shotguns, and more. The main problem with your weapons is the fact they don't feel accurate. The reticle can't seem to align correctly, making what should be easy shots an exercise in futility. Hit detection is also an awful mess. In my review of the horrible Xbox game Chicago Enforcer, I mentioned how sometimes it could sometimes take up to five point-blank shots from a shotgun to put down an enemy. This game also has that problem. I fired at enemies up to five times with my shotgun and they still didn't go down and kept firing. The easiest way to take out an enemy is either by head shots or blowing up an object near them. I also had a problem with the button layout on the controller. To kick open doors you press the X button, however, this can also activate crouch or a summer salt. This game is extremely frustrating, and guess what? Every time you die, you get to redo that level all over again! YAY! At least it doesn't have horrible load times like Chicago Enforcer. There are only two small things that elevated this game above some of the other really bad action games I've played. The destructive mayhem was quite fun (I caused more than $300,000 in damage on a single level just by destroying art in an art museum). Then the second is the Good Cop/Bad Cop scale. When you find evidence, destroy stuff, and don't execute the enemies who surrender you get a higher rating on the good cop scale. On the other side of the spectrum if you blow stuff up, don't find evidence, and kill the enemies who surrender you get a higher rating on the bad cop scale. I chose the bad cop side because it was more fun. However these were the only cool parts of the game. The rest of the game is a mindlessly dull and broken chaotic mess of flaming awfulness. There is virtually no fun to be had in this mess. Don't buy it. Please don't become a masochist like me who needs to play awful games for some reason.
OVERALL: If you find it in the bargain bin, leave it. This is nothing more than a poorly designed action title that for some reason decided to exist.
THE GOOD: Destructive mayhem, good cop/bad cop scale.
THE BAD: The graphics, the gameplay, the music, the repetitive designs, no checkpoints, etc.

Oh God, what were they thinking. This game was BAD, not bad good, but good and bad. At nine dollars this game is priced too high. The graphics where nominal, the game play was dumb, the AI (in this case All Idiotic) was none existant. Hardcore fans of the movie were suckered into paying 50 dollars when this first came out. The only place that you'll see Martin Lawerance or Will Smith's images is on the box, that's it. Nor do they use their voices in the game, I figured that they both had made bad career moves in the past that almost cost them everything, so they didn't want to take that chance again. All in all, I'd place this game up (or down) there with such videogame marvels as Aquaman and Superman Akropolis. Save the nine bucks for a six pack or something.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Worst Game Ever made on any system EVER!, July 9, 2006
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bad Boys Miami Takedown (Video Game)
I find it hard to belive that someone actually made this game, and if that wasn't bad enough, some guy actually tried to sell it.

There should be a group formed right away dedicated to gathering up ever copy oth this game and then placing them in a big pile. After this they should be crushed blown up, and the ashes should be flown into space.
Seriously, I have played video games for every system ever made for the last 30 years. This is the absolute worst game ever. I almost can't belive that it exists.....
