5.0 out of 5 stars A great popcorn flick October 26, 2003
Format:DVD
Being such a fan of the first movie with its comic timing, excellent direction that Michael always brings (Though Pearl Harbor was crap) and a great score (yet is sounds suspiciously like Speed's Hmmmmmm) anyway...i was surprised to find that I loved the second one even more...and the freeway chase scene rivals The Matrix Reloaded (Yes I said it!!) I think everything was better because Will Smith had more time to work on his comic/action skills between these films, and Michael definetly knows how to play to HIS audience as does Jerry Bruckhiemer. And the camera work in this film was turned up to 11! the 360 degree shooting scene going from room to room through bullet shots! GENIOUS! I definetly can see this film spawning at least one more sequel and is the Letha Weapon of our generation....with lots more blood and a more hardcore style of comedy.

... Well I finally got to see Bad Boys 2 a few weeks ago and I was very pleased. I can't wait for the dvd to come out.
The movie is ACTION packed to say the least. There is action, brief nudity, a lot of cursing, violent and digusting killings, and a lot of drugs. It is not a kid's movie and I was disapointed to see how many people brought their kids with them to see this movie.
Anyway, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence make a great team and yes their jokes were sometimes annoying and dry but not enough to be overshadowed by the really funny scenes. I liked the first Bad Boys film but I really feel that the sequel is much better. I would not be surprised to see a third installment.
If you like action, good special effects and great stunt coordination, this film is for you. I can't wait to watch it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars best flick in recent years November 27, 2003
By Jake
Format:DVD
i got no idea what all the critics are thinking or why they even have a job. this movie got terrible reviews from the critics and why? too over the top? well for the first time in ages they made a tight action movie that was a hard R. most pg-13 movies are the same as R movies but without the blood. anyway this is a very entertaining action movie. a non stop thrill ride as all those washed-up critics put it. while definately not for the kids, if your in the mood for something that makes you all tense from the amazing action, then practiclly fallin out of your seat with laughter. i mean if you not grabbin yer seat, yer fallin out of it. great all around shooting scenes and the best, most intense car chases ever caught on film; plus hilarious jokes. you cant beat it. buy it if you like action films at all. also a must if you want to show off your home theatre setup. at least rent it if you like action, you wont regret it. it is rated R for- strong violence and action, pervasive language, and sexuality.

While the original Bad Boys (1995) was a decent buddy cop flick, it suffered from trying too hard to be funny, lacked focus at times, did not have a heavyweight villain, and did not take the action to overload levels. None of those issues exist in the sequel, Bad Boys II (2003), a wild, hard hitting crime adventure directed by Michael Bay (The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor), where the violence and action are pushed to extremes, and reality is not a major concern.

Bad Boys II is the kind of over the top action extravaganza that producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Con Air, National Treasure, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End), has become known for. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as Miami police detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett, who are on the trail of drug kingpin Johnny Tapia (Jordi Molla). Tapia's operation is involved with members of the Russian mob, who are distributing ecstasy through night clubs. Marcus's sister Syd (Gabrielle Union), a DEA agent, is involved in an undercover operation involving the Russians, helping them launder drug money.

Opening with a raid on a white supremacist group, where Burnett gets shot in the ass, Bad Boys II incorporates some humorous elements, but these are channeled more effectively, than in the previous film. Lawrence and Smith remain a solid team producing plenty of jive and banter, but they are definitely taking their work more seriously this time, as family time and romance are pushed to the periphery. Even with a running time of 144 minutes, there really aren't too many wasted moments, as most of the emphasis is on the development of the central story, dark humor, and dynamic action scenes.

Ah, yes. Bad Boys II. Hundreds of film critics reacted negatively to this film, especially Ebert & Roeper. Audiences who love the first one have mixed feelings about this sequel. Personally, while I don't find anything special about it, I don't think it's that horrible of a movie. The only good things about Bad Boys II are the action scenes and the humor. Director Michael Bay certainly knows how to perfectly shoot gun battles and car chases. If you're into big, explosive action, then you would really enjoy this. The problem with the action, however, is that there's too much of it. This movie is two-and-a-half hours long, and the majority of its time is used on gunfights, crashing cars, and explosions. By the second half of the film, it starts to get very tiring to see all this action that's occurring almost everywhere. Some of the action scenes seem to have no purpose at all; they look like they're just there on the screen in order to extend the film's running time. The humor is a bit more coherent. The chemistry between Will Smith & Martin Lawrence is hilarious, even though the buddy cop formula has been reused hundreds of times before this one. A few of the jokes are terribly juvenile, but most of them managed to make me laugh. The plot.....well, who cares about the plot? We all know that it's very simplistic, and the only reason to watch this film is the action. Anyway, I don't really find this a very bad film, but it's not that great, either. The action (at least in the first half of the film) is fine, the jokes are funny, and the cinematography looks great. Too bad this isn't really anything special, though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad Boys, but in a good way
Funny movie, but not hilarious. Chase scenes were unbelievably long, which added to the ridiculousness & comedy of the film.
