5.0 out of 5 stars A better disc for a great movie
What can I say about this movie, but the fact that Bad boys is one of my all time favourite films. It stars Will Smith (the Frensh Prince of Bell Air) and Martin Lawerance (Martain/Blue Streak) as two Miami cops, both are two very funny actors who took to the action role very well (of course Will Smith as continued on so in this role in films like ID4 and Men in black)...

3.0 out of 5 stars "Lawrence and Smith Are The Bad Boys of Comedy"
Hilariously enjoyable as any black comedy and full of fast paced action, "Bad Boys," as a 'slick flick,' stars Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett and Will Smith as Mike Lowrey playing two cops who fall on to the trail of millions of dollars of Heroin stolen by a criminal mastermind named Fouchet (Tcheky Karyo) and try to recover it as well as rescue Julie Mott...

The film produces great action and boasting good soundtrack(songs such as Shy guy) from the talents of a great director(This film really started Michael Bay's carear and is still one of his best).I know its not everyones cup of tea, but if you like your movies fast, sexy, loud and action packed buy the DVD now! This special edition had loads of extras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Whatcha Gonna Do When They Come For You..., March 13, 2006
This review is from: Bad Boys - Special Edition (DVD)
When it comes to action films there is one man that has come to be known as Hollywood's go-to-guy when producing high-octane action/adventure fare. That man is Jerry Bruckheimer, "Top Gun", "Days of Thunder", and "Con Air" are just a few of the outstanding action films Bruckheimer has produced throughout the last 20 years. In 1995, Bruckheimer teamed up with director Michael Bay to make a film that focuses on two hip, young cops in Miami, Florida. To bring the freshness needed for the roles of Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, Bay and Bruckheimer looked to the talents of two popular young actors made famous by two very big television shows. The actors chosen were Will Smith (TV's "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") and Martin Lawrence (TV's "Martin").

"Bad Boys" story as stated above, focuses on two Miami Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence), who after confiscating one hundred million dollars worth of heroine come under fire when the drugs wind up stolen. With the drugs missing, the two lead detectives under investigation by Internal Affairs, it appears that this particular narcotics division of the Miami Police Department will be closed down for good. So, with no one on their side except for a young woman (Tea Leoni) who happened to witness a murder linked to the drugs, Mike and Marcus must strike out on their own to reaquire the drugs and bring down those responsible, if they succeed they can clear their names and keep their badges for another day, but if not it may just mean jail for the detectives.

Many critics were skeptical about whether or not two actors famous for doing comedy on network television shows could pull of being the leads in a high-profile action movie. Really many actors would probably have the problem with making the jump from TV to film, especially when their primary job had been comedy, with very little drama and no action, but Will Smith and Martin Lawrence succeed brilliantly. The comedic timing between these two actors is outstanding, and both pull off the dramatic scenes very convincingly, and the action scenes are well played and laid out thanks to the adrenaline charged directing of Michael Bay and the athletic prowess of the actors. Jerry Bruckheimer's skill for picking projects and finding the right people to make them come together seems to never fail, and "Bad Boys" is no exception.

If you're a fan of action films and for some reason have yet to see "Bad Boys", do yourself a favor and watch this movie, your satisfaction is guaranteed.

"Bad Boys" is rated R for violence, language, and sexuality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable stuff!, August 10, 2006

Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay make an excellent team! When they work together, explosions rock the screen, profanity is spewed between characters, and corpses far outnumber the amount of lines spoken. This is one of Will Smith's early ventures in film, and to be honest, I think this is his breakthrough role as Mike Lowrey, a playboy cop with a taste for gritty gunfights. Martin Lawrence is hilarious as Mike's partner, Marcus Burnett, a family man whose gig constantly interferes with his family life. Tea Leoni is okay, but not great, and her role seems a bit weird, as though it was just randomly stuck in the plot. The bad guy is a typical villain, with few lines and a thick accent. The action scenes are, of course, Bruckheimer-worthy, and so you wont be disappointed. The cinematography adds to the film's good parts. Overall, a movie that is fun, brainless stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty fun action, July 5, 2006

This movie is very fun and full of action. If you can get past the cursing, it's well worth it. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are almost too much fun as cop partners who go deep undercover to recover stolen police evidence (drugs). Tea Leoni is also hilarious in the film and serves as a great counterpoint to the cocky buddy cops.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, But Tristar Needs to 'SUPERBIT' this title!, December 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bad Boys - Special Edition (DVD)
Though the film is extremely entertaining and the documentary is also enjoyable, the studio needs to release a 'SUPERBIT' version (higher quality video standard that utilizes space on the disc normally reserved for special features for picture quality instead) of this title like they have for 'Vertical Limit', 'Dracula', and 'Johnny Neumonic' to truly earn the 5th star.

Unfortunately, Bad Boys looks grainy on a 65" rear projection Widescreen TV when compared to high quality mastered titles like Star Wars, LOTR, and The Rock: The Critereon Edition and Superbit titles, which still looks razor sharp at this size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lawrence + Smith = Action Packed Thriller, May 24, 2001
This review is from: Bad Boys [VHS] (VHS Tape)
All that I can say about this movie is "Wow." I have seen this movie several times and has earned the number one spot in my favorite list of movies. The special effects and camera views for 1995 are immaculate. Especially during the last scene where the car chase was taking place. The camera view that sticks in my minds is where is shows the tire spinning, and you hear the outrageously loud whine of the engine, which compares to the beginning where Mike Lowry was driving the car right before they got jacked. This all out great movie will definetly not stay laying on the shelf, it will constantly be played guarunteed. Joey

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Action!, January 28, 2001
This review is from: Bad Boys - Special Edition (DVD)
Yeah, Bad Boys is a really sweet action film--as are all of Michael Bay's movies--but I think the cars deserve most of the credit. I mean, at the end, we've got a Porsche 911--black, of course--chasing down the badguy in the most perfect car ever to be shown in a movie: an AC Shelby Cobra 427 with white racing stripes. That is the best scene in the movie, where Lawrence and Smith are chasing down the badguy (what's his name?) on an airport runway. Easily the saddest part of the movie is when the Cobra hits a brick wall and is mangled (*tear*). Well, anyway, it should be easy to see that, having Will Smith *and* Martin Lawrence, it is a funny movie, too. Don't get me wrong, it's not really an action comedy like Money Talks or Blue Streak, but it does have some hilarious parts. I guess the comedy is a little stronger than in The Rock, which, if you've seen it, you'll know has some funny scenes, too. Anyone that likes any of the movies I described should see this movie...and if you've already seen it...see it again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Miami Vice for the Nineties, this movie is AWESOME!!, September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bad Boys (DVD)
Slick, stylish, and set in Miami, Bad Boys will please anyone who loved miami Vice from the 80s, with cool cops, cool cars, cool guns, and cool music. The action is rushed but thrilling, the stars, Smith and Lawrence are the best match since Lethal Weapon's Gibson and Glover, and it marks Michael Bay's directorial debut, making Bad Boys his harbinger to excellent action movies. The DVD is crisp, great transfer, yet not a single extra, as well as lame packaging on the back. In a few years, the Sequel, Badder Boys: Bad Around the World should debut. Will Smith is the MAN!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bad boys...good movie., December 2, 2005
This review is from: Bad Boys - Special Edition (DVD)
For his first film, Director Michael Bay took production to Miami like a bull in a china shop. The perfectionist film maker supposedly ruffled many feathers with his demands and `do-it-my-way' approach.

Despite the rumors, and they are just rumors which are usually based on disproportionate facts, Bay had Jerry Bruckheimer in his corner and was able to get it done. Even back in 1994 when Bruckheimer was merely a Producer Czar, and not quite the Producer Deity that he is today he was able to get sections of busy streets closed off and complete shooting schedules approved on location in Miami. Bay went on to help Bruckheimer became even more influential with a string of blockbuster action hits; The Rock, Armageddon and Pearl Harbor.

To emphasize the point, Bay really does know what he's doing when it comes to making movies. Bad Boys being his first film, he certainly wanted to do it right. The SE DVD explains much of this as he worked with Lawrence and Smith to get the most out of the characters as well as the sets. He actually paid for an entire scene (several thousand dollars) on the basis that he believed the movie needed it and would get it back if the movie made enough at the box office. It did, and he got his money back and then some.

Now to focus on the movie itself. It's a buddy cop movie at the core, but it's different in that both characters are black. The script was originally written for Dana Carvey and John Lovitz, which would have made it a much different movie. As with many scripts, parts are usually written with the assumption that a white person would play the role but could easily be played by a black person. Samuel L. Jackson has won many roles by pointing out this oversight. It's a refreshing change compared to many movies because not only are they black but Lawrence and Smith do a superb job of characterizing two very different people. Lawrence play Det. Marcus Burnett, a working man's cop. He's married with kids and a house. Will Smith, in his first action flick, plays Det. Mike Lowrey, a somewhat self centered ladies man who was left a large trust fund by his parents (we're never told what happened to them). He drives a Porsche, wears silk shirts and lives in an art deco condo on Bayside. The two play off each other with skill in being very black sometimes but at the same time, very funny. They have deep chemistry that comes off as a partnership/friendship that goes back a long way.

The plot centers around the two Vice Detectives as they try to find out who stole their largest bust of heroine. The fear of political repercussion of someone taking the fall for the screw up gives them a time limit. As Marcus and Mike hit the street one of the thieves squanders some of the heroine and gets himself killed by the mastermind of the operation, Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo). In the process, an expensive call girl and her friend, Julie (Téa Leoni) are caught in the crossfire. Only Julie survives. What happens next is a case of mistaken Identity that cannot explained in a short sentence or two. Suffice to say, it provides the movie with many moments of comic relief.

As things unfold the action scenes become more energenic. The cinematography and use of slow motion are used to their full potential. This is where Michael Bay shines, in the look of the film. The lobby shoot out/foot chase provides the best action sequence of the movie with many shots of Smith that glimpse into his future stardom. The ending action scenes are a great climax.
This movie is a stellar introduction piece of work. It has some flaws but none that are glaring. The infusion of life into the buddy cop movie was badly needed and this movie does it in large doses.
