From Library Journal
In the course of an investigation, Anna Lee, Cody's series sleuth from such works as Under Contract (Audio Reviews, LJ 7/94), is taken prisoner when she tries to foil the kidnapping of a teenage girl. This crackling, intense story finds her calling on all her resources to retain her sanity, help the girl survive, and try to escape. Meanwhile, her colleagues are desperately trying to identify her captors. Juliet Prague's narration includes specific and very different voices for all the characters. Her interpretation of the kidnappers can raise the hairs on the back of the neck, perfectly capturing their cruelty and stupidity. A well-told and superbly read story; highly recommended for fiction collections.?Melody A. Moxley, Rowan P.L., Salisbury, N.C.

Private investigator Anna Lee, the British equivalent of V.I. Warshawski, finds herself kidnapped as she pursues an apparently routine child custody case. Narrator Juliet Prague's years of drama training enable her to bring this mystery to life. She effortlessly metamorphoses into the dozens of characters in the story, including innocent and precocious teenagers, brutal thugs, smarmy mobsters, frantic parents, bumbling detectives, psycho secretary and even an idiosyncratic poet. Her vocalizations offer richness of dialect, variation of tempo and subtleties of emotional undertone. Prague's crisp narrative style moves the story quickly through its many points of view. Her performance is clearly the star of the show. R.P.L. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
