Still good to go in 2011,

This review is from: Bad Day LA (CD-ROM)
Wow, I had not heard of this game until I saw it in May 2011. I picked it up and played it on a Sat afternoon and really had a good time. Now, there are things people should know: - Profanity: Full of it. No holding back. It is a Mature game. - Violence: For a game that you can either save zombies or kill them, shoot terrorist and more, it had surprisingly little blood and gore. (or it vanishes quickly) - Plot/gameplay: You are a down and out bum on the street (literally) and a plane crashes that has toxic gas that turns people into zombie-like characters. Mass havoc begins in L.A. and like many games, in order for someone to let you get where you need to go, you have to do something for them first. As you progress, normal people are in the way, some are on fire, looting, getting attacked, etc and you can either help along the way or just head straight for your final destination but where is the fun in that? Take your time and explore. There's no time limit. It's not entirely linear. Although it is limited, you can run around and explore the area before heading out to your next level. There are collectables such as mystery drinks, food, ammo, booze, health, and..pornos. Porno mags increase your health meter permanently which I found funny in it's own way. There are a very few levels where, if you try to explore too far, it forces you to go back saying something like "Am I supposed to be doing something?". It is a an American McGee game so if you don't know, you should know it is filled with smart, sly humor and lets just say it, toilet humor. It's a little short but it is now a bargain bin game. As the game progresses, a few survivors join you and they can be selected to help you or back you up by pressing the function keys (F1-F4). A sick kid, a Mexican gardener, a teen girl (with chihuahua) and The Sergeant. Specs: It says it is a Windows XP game and is pretty old so some people will be hesitant to buy it if you have Vista. I have Vista, DX11 compliant card and plenty of RAM and HD space and it played 99% smooth on my rig. I did not have to play it in XP compatability mode. I had only 1 instance where a load screen froze. It never actually crashed, no sound issues, no framerate issues, and if you are interested, it has very simple cheat codes if you like using them. Even the cheat codes are humorous. Worth it if your system will play it. If you have Windows 7, I suggest passing but it's so cheap, you won't miss the $$.

I bit of Dave Chappelle here, Sam & Max there, toss in a little Serious Sam.,

This was a silly game, a game made on a whim in a short amount of time to kill time before one of McGee's bigger projects was ready to be announced, & that seems to be one of the reasons it got shoddy reviews. What you didn't know is that the negative reviews were mostly from gamers who play nothing but shooters & World of Warcraft (& a few McGee fans who were peeved about Oz getting hiatused indefinately & releasing something unTim Burton-like), & as anyone knows, FPS players are very difficult to ammuse or keep entertained for long & don't seem to like variety very much (seeing as they never get sick of playing games set in WWII), so this game was out of their comfort zone, & because of them, people were willing to hate this game before it even came out, because it seemed like a popular trend. My first introduction was through a 10 minute gameplay video & was instantly reminded of Dave Chappelle, Sam & Max, & Serious Sam. There's no broken gameplay, the AI isn't stupid, the voice acting isn't bad, & there were laughs galore, & in the end, all I can say is that I had more fun playing this than I did Psychonauts.

I bought this as a gift for my youngest son.. Asked him later how he liked it and to rate the stars.. He must have loved it.. I loved the price and the swift delivery.. Will buy all my family's gifts at amazon.. Best (and most reasonable) business on the net.
