5.0 out of 5 stars Listen Carefully!
Whoever thinks "Deep End" is about suicide should really listen carefully to the lyrics. Whoever thinks MadChild doesn't listen to bars should consider that maybe MadChild doesn't give a [damn] and considers that his style. I love Bad Dreams as well as every one of my Swollen CD's. Each MC's style is unique: Prevail is brainy. MadChild uses ancient and fantasy based...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sophmore Jinx, I wish it wasn't true.
I believe Swollen has caught the sophmore jinx. After listening to Balance this albam was a let down for me. I don't know what happened to Mad Child on this one, he sounds wack on almost 50% of the album. His lyrics are too simple, everything just sounds wrong to me. Prev 1 on the other hand has surpassed Mad Child, I think he holds this album together along with Rob the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Swollen Members- Bad Dreams, January 20, 2004
This review is from: Bad Dreams (Audio CD)
Swollen Members second album "Bad Dreams" (2001) is a good album. Mad Child and Prevail's lyrics are on point and are enhanced by a variety of impressive production. The beats to this album are dark and excellent for the most part. "Killing Spree" starts things off strong with Swollen Members delivering some solid lyrics backed by an ill fastpaced beat. Evidence and Chali 2na drop in for a four way collabo on "Full Contact", and Swollen bring it back to the basics on "Take It Back" feat. DJ Revoultion. The title track "Bad Dreams" is a memorable eerie grimey sounding cut. Mad Child and Prevail deliver a killer collabration with my favourite track on this album the standout "Deep End" a sick cut to remember. Swollen Members rip over another first class beat on "Anthrax Island" and Swolllen Members wisely leave an addictive instrumental on its own with "Reflection". Son Doobie drops in for the grim "Burns and Scars" and Moka Only makes a good appearance on the single "Fuel Injected". The album closes off powerfully with "High Road" another premium track where Swollen Members reflect on life, the new millennium and much more for over ten minutes. "Bad Dreams" is a quality album that I recommend for the collection.

Bad Dreams is one of the hottest albums out there! Ok...Not to be rude or anything, but that person that said the song Deep End talks about suicide is WRONG! The song Deep End is talking about Swollen's late night recording rituals. "Working late night, not that we hate light, just feels right, that's when tracks come out tight." Sorry, but how do you get suicide out of that?
I'm a HUGE Swollen Members fan, and this is a must have for any other Swollen fans out there. Swollen Members are themselves, not influenced by a major record label. They still keep their underground vibe, even though they are becoming more and more well known like many mainstream artists.
Like I said, you got to get this album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Underground Hit, July 30, 2002

When i first heard this album i was blown away by the lyrical genius of swollen members, especially Mad Child.Who was once homeless and living in the cd store where he worked in Canada...That was until he appeared on a track with Q-bert called 'Pregnant'...Mad Child, Prevail And Moka Only formed the group, before Moka decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career. First Lp Balance was a worldwide underground hit and left people hanging for their next release which came the next year.Stand out tracks are Fuel Injected, Camouflage, Dark Riders, and Bad Dreams ...you can tell they were dungeons and dragons playing nerds when they were at school, but that just adds to their individuality...definately an album to get a hold of along with the first Lp Balance....

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow, April 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bad Dreams (Audio CD)
This is the 2nd hip-hop/rap album I have ever owned. The other is "Balance", by SM, of course. I have always hated this genre of music, but for some reason "Lady Venom" really appealed to me, and I became a Swollen members fan as a result. Anyways, "Bad Dreams" is awesome. I don't mind that some of it is "dark" because my music of choice is usually metal, which is normally darker in content. This album is incredibly catchy, and I don't have a problem with any of the songs: I can just sit in my room and "bob my head" to the whole album. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars this cd is tight son, January 9, 2002

i was on my computer on msn and one of my friends was like there's a new swollen song on much. i'm like damn so i flip to it and sure enough fuel injection was playing. i had to have it. luckaly my sis bought it for me for xmas. i listend to it right away. though i find more songs than usual aren't up to my standards for swollen but most of the songs were damn good. this album is more rythmical than balance i think so its real good. if i were you i'd buy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sophmore Jinx, I wish it wasn't true., December 3, 2001

I believe Swollen has caught the sophmore jinx. After listening to Balance this albam was a let down for me. I don't know what happened to Mad Child on this one, he sounds wack on almost 50% of the album. His lyrics are too simple, everything just sounds wrong to me. Prev 1 on the other hand has surpassed Mad Child, I think he holds this album together along with Rob the Viking. Everyone who has the Balance album knows Mad Child is supposed to be the better of the 2 lyrically, on this album instead of his skills increasing they have decreased. If you guys (Swollen Members)read this, don't missunderstand me I still liked the album I just wish the old Mad Child was back, thats all. Due to the fact there is a good amount of bangin tracks like Full Contact, Dark Riders, and Killing Spree, I give a reasonable 3 stars, which is not bad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and yet disappointing, May 26, 2004
By
Justin (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bad Dreams (Audio CD)
I was really impressed with the quality of beats and music that this album produced. Prevail was outstanding and his flow was amazing. The song "Deep End" is easily one of the best hip hop songs I've ever heard, the flow, lyrics, beat and sound all work together incredibly well. However, the rest of the album is heavy with great beats and solid lines from Prevail, but Mad Child doesn't seem to count bars well, or even at all. There are parts in several songs in which he seems to delay, to set something down, but he doesn't continue with anything that ties together his rhymes. There are several songs in which pauses would be okay if done well, but he is without cadence or any sembelence of counting the beats or bars at all. There are several really good songs, like "Killing Spree", "The Reflection" and "Ventilate" that could be made into amazing songs with a bit more work. This album, if the timing on the lyrics was better, would easily be 5 stars, as the beats are some the best I've heard, and "Deep End" is one of the top 5 best rap/hip hop song I've heard.
