This is a hilarious book. My two 17-year-old boys laughed out loud reading it, and I think they may have learned something in the process.

Finally, a common-sense guide to managing yourself on the open road! This father/son team of writers has done it again (see The Dog Ate My Resume). Their level-headed advice is priceless regarding the wisdom of picking and choosing among the bewildering array of traffic rules and regulations, amending them at will, in order to get from here to there with a minimum of fuss and interference by other drivers. A thousand and one laughs--don't read it while driving!

I bought this for my newly licensed 17-year old brother who hates reading. When he found a book under the christmas tree he thought I was crazy. But once I told him about the premise of the book he loved it and reads it over and over again. This is funny for all ages. The scenarios, tests, and driving suggestions are hilarious. I highly suggest getting this book if you are looking for a good laugh.

An absolute must for any driver! It is enjoyable from the first paragraph to the final page. Be sure to order two copies because whoever reads yours is going to want their own copy.

Really, really funny. Bought it as a gift for a new driver. Thought it conveyed excellent advise but in an extremely humourous manner. Suitable for old and young alike.

Politics? In a book about driving?,
This review is from: The Bad Driver's Handbook: Hundreds of Simple Maneuvers to Frustrate, Annoy, and Endanger Those Around You (Paperback)
It's more common than you'd think! At least, in this case it was. That disappointed me, because if I wanted political humor, I'd pick up a book on political humor. I picked up a book on bad driving, though, because I wanted some light and carefree humor. And it was so unnecessary, and a way to alienate some of your audience.
Also, I'm not sure if it was intentional (and a joke? If so, it was lost on me) or what, but on page 159 it says: "Thus, if the speed limit is 65, and 15% of 65 is 20, and 65 minus 20 is approximately 40..." Um, no. 15% of 65 is 9.75, which is approximately 10. I can't see where it could be a joke (unless they are implying, in addition to driving too slow, that old people can't do math?) and it just makes the author (and editor) look a little less than intelligent - something you want to be very careful of when you write a book mocking others. Overall, it had its funny moments, but it was too forced and sterile for the most part. It might be a good book to read snippets of out loud to friends at a partly, but to sit and read it yourself is not enjoyable. It quickly becomes grating and annoying, and by the end I simply couldn't wait for it to be finished. |
