Save your money, really....,
This review is from: Bad Girls Don't (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
I also am surprised at the positive reviews of this book! I don't often leave reviews, unless the book is really a disappointment. I give the author credit for having some laugh out loud lines though. The characters are not developed well, however....The heroine is really just a spoiled little girl posing as a free spirit. If the character were developed a little better, I might have been able to relate to another side of her.
LOTS of squabbling throughout the book. Witty dialogue is one thing, but constant bickering is not a fun read... This isn't the worst book I've ever read, and perhaps the author's other books would be more enjoyable. I just wished I hadn't invested my time in this one...

Wow, I can't believe all of the positive reviews this book got.
I almost threw it away after half way through. Skye is such a mess. Her excuse for speeding is because it is a rule and she likes to break rules. Linz makes it out as if she is right. That excuse can't fly when there are so many people die each years because speeding drivers lost control of their cars. I think Linz tries to make it funny but I could not find the humor in it. Skye is a bully in disguise who, like all bullies, is insecured and immature. The way she flies off the handle with everything Nathan says really get on my nerves. Such a childish behavior! Nathan is too much a nice guy that he deserves someone better.

Frustrated,
This review is from: Bad Girls Don't (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
It's difficult to continue to read a fun plot with a great male main character and entertaining supporting characters when the female lead is so irritating. She and her mother, calling themselves "free spirits", are really just selfish and thoughtless of others. Loved the town, the great lead guy and the fun residents of the town, but the female lead and her mother just sucked the joy right out of it. Couldn't finish the book.

Bad Girls Don't by Cathie Linz is a great light romance novel. This is the second book of series. Skye new age yoga/belly dancer who finds herself mixed up with the local Sheriff. Lots of laugh out moments.... Check out her whole series Good girls do and Big Girls don't Cry coming out November 2007.

Ridiculous characters but sometimes fun dialogue,
By JujubeMBA (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bad Girls Don't (Berkley Sensation) (Kindle Edition)
The book is very readable, but the characters are not believable. Skye fights just to fight, and lacks any rationality. She lets her child run wild. She may not care about money but surely any decent parent would see a lottery ticket as a way to secure a child's future with a college fund and a trust.
Nathan does not behave as a believable man, especially when he talks to other guys. That dialogue is cringe-worthy. However other parts of dialogue can be quite funny, and the writing style is very relaxed and pleasant. So it's not a worthwhile read, but if you are stuck somewhere with just this book to entertain you, you won't be bored. I do have to note the awful treatment of bellydance in this book. The author would have been far better served by making her a pole dancer because clearly there was no awareness of the complexity of the dance, the cultural relevance of it. A person can't just learn it from her sister (who also never had formal training). It makes a mockery of an art form that is beloved and culturally iconic in the near east and middle east.

I got the book before the dated stated on my order, but it was listed as "good" and when I got the book the spine was so creased I was afraid the pages were going to fall out when I read it. I think it should have been listed as acceptable in stead of good.

When I first started this novel , I felt that Skye was just what she had seemed in the first novel of this series, GOOD GIRLS DO. An immature, irresponsible, and selfish brat. However, after the first few chapters, you get to know Skye a little better, and see her character begin to develop. As the story progressed, while still a little annoyed by a few of her choices and thought processes, I found myself liking and understanding her a little more. In the end, I was very satisfied with this cute story, with a few serious issues like grief and self-doubt thrown in to keep it from being to fluffy. I don't feel the need to add a plot summary as that has been taken care of by other reviewers, but I will say that I would readily recommend this book to any fan of contemporary romance.

A Don't Miss Read!,

This review is from: Bad Girls Don't (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
Opposites may attract, but when Nathan and Skye come together it's more than attraction, and they're more than opposites. A belly dancer and a cop? Linz pulls of another magical story with a great central couple, quirky and inviting secondary characters and lots of laughter! A don't miss read!

A free spirit, Skye Wright lives for the moment. She is a belly dancing health nut that is out of control, with a contagious appeal that has gotten her out of many a jam. So when she is pulled over she is sure she can flash her way out of it.
Probably could too, if only the stud in uniform pulling her over wasn't so by the book. And to make a bad situation worse she is unable to hide the numerous tickets she has yet to pay, making him able to bring her in. But he is dealing with much more than he can contain in this fiery rebel. When Skye becomes endangered the only one that can help her is deputy do-right himself. Skye discovers her biggest fear may not be her safety but possibly her heart. There are only a handful of authors that have the ability to make a reader laugh so hard they lose their breath. If laughter is good for the mind and the heart Bad Girls Don't should be a staple in hospitals across the country. From the first chapter you are hooked to this zany young woman. Her unbridled passion for life makes you feel refreshed as sift through all her exploits. Nathan starts off hardnosed and relentless but soon it is easy to see what kind of charmer he can really be. The combination of these two, makes him the Yin to her Yang. He is able to see past her jubilant exterior to the frightened woman within. As well as her seeing through his gruff outer shell to the compassionate being he really is. This is a novel truly not to be missed. Reviewed by Joyce Copyright © 2006 CK2S Kwips and Kritiques. Bad Girls Don't,
This review is from: Bad Girls Don't (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
Nathan Thorton is the sheriff in Rock Creek. He lives his life by the book and he likes it that way. Free spirited Skye Wright is the complete opposite of the kind of woman he would be interested in. When Nathan pulls Skye over for speeding he has a feeling things will never be the same again for him. Skye barrels into Nathan's conservative calm life, turning him on and rocking his world. Although they are soon sharing steamy kisses and hot sex, sharing their hearts is another matter entirely.
Bad Girls Don't is a blast! Nate and Skye prove that opposites not only attract but they're perfect together too. Along with mellow Nathan and wild Skye is a colorful cast of characters that really enhance this story. Bad Girls Don't is fun, sexy and romantic. Nannette reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed |
