Great mystery book with lots of action and colorful characters. One of those fun, easy reading books but I did finish it faster than I wanted. Hopefully, the author has more in the works.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Bad Intentions" lead to a Great Story., October 22, 2009
This review is from: Bad Intentions (Paperback)
In the beginning chapters the the location and charactors are introduced and given life. You know how the people in the book think, feel and live their lives. They become real. Even if you've never been to the Houston, south Texas area, you can feel the heat and humidity, the desolate roads where story takes place. There is an unfortunate accident where a family is mostly destroyed and powerful and corrupt individuals try to use the legal system to enrich themselves. Another accident(?),a corrupt lawyer, four dead, and potentially $250,000,000 in a wrongful death jury award. It is up to Tom Seiler, the main character, to bring the guilty parties to Texas justice. As the book got closer to the end, I couldn't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Miller Lite?, January 13, 2008
This review is from: Bad Intentions (Paperback)
Bad Intentions was a great read and a fun courtroom/investigative drama. I was engaged from beginning to end and it did not drag anywhere. The characters were believable and the story was compelling and well told. The technical explanations of accident analysis were clear and made the story more realistic. My only problem with the main character was his choice of beer. He drank about three Miller Lites per chapter; I hope that Jack Grubbs was well paid for product placement. I look forward to the next installment of this trilogy and hope that the main character will start drinking better beer. Great book -- and a lot of fun to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-engineered Page Turner, February 9, 2010

BAD INTENTIONS is a book that pulls you in from the gitgo!
Believeable characters, crisp writing, excellent details make it a wonderful ride thru Texas and corruption underneath the surface of courtroom drama in accident cases. The true engineering aspect is hard to find in other books and makes learning an added benefit to this well-written tale of Texas lawsuits.
The vivid despcriptions and true-sounding dialog would make this an easy task to turn into a movie screenplay.
5 solid stars for Jack Grubbs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!, August 17, 2008

I rarely read anything other than "true crime" but the way Grubbs told his story, I believed it was real all the way through. I finished the book in 2 days, only so I would have something to look forward to the 2nd day. I am so looking forward to more from this author and will be watching for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super-Engineer to the Rescue, June 10, 2008

This review is from: Bad Intentions (Paperback)
At last an engineer is the hero! Loved the bit about a NASA engineer being the main character. The analysis of the crime was put in terms even non-engineers can understand. Engaging throughout the entire book. Read it in 2 days and am awaiting more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping mystery!, April 30, 2008
By
This review is from: Bad Intentions (Paperback)
This story grabs you from the opening page as the events of a horrific accident on a lonely Texas highway unfolds in an unstoppable, excruciating manner.

Reminiscent of early Grisham, "Bad Intentions" offers a twist to the typical courtroom drama. Instead of the usual super-crusader lawyer, Grubbs offers up a former NASA design engineer as the hero of his compelling tale. An expert in accident-reconstruction, engineer Tom Seiler is a likable, beer-drinking everyman with a talent for explaining the complex world of physics, stress and gravity in a riveting manner. His star-worthy performance on the witness stand commands the jury's (and the reader's) rapt attention.

When Tom is brought in to investigate yet another highway fatality, he begins to suspect it is more than just a wrongful death accident caused by negligent driving. A family of four is dead. Could an 18-wheel rig hauling tons of steel pipe have deliberately been used as a murder weapon? Readers will stay up late laboring along with Tom to unravel the mystery as more people die along the way.

Grubbs has set this page-turner in the Houston-Galveston Bay area, and his colorful characters are spot on. "Bad Intentions" is an impressive debut.

Bad Intentions

What a great read !!

The plot line is wonderfully intricate. The detail woven into this suspense thriller let me kind of "close my eyes" and picture being right there watching the whole story as a silent observer. Readers familiar with Houston and the Texas gulf coast will feel right at home following the action. It is a riveting story and the author puts the reader right into the lives of the characters. When the story climaxes for the heroes, it becomes impossible to put the book down. And I didn't. Jack Grubbs skillfully invites his readers into the story and keeps you there until the last word - and then some. At the end I found myself wanting more and not wanting to wait for the next sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engineer goes after the Bad Guys, January 5, 2008
This review is from: Bad Intentions (Paperback)
This is a great thriller concerning a mechanical engineer who fights crime as an expert witness at criminal trials. He explains his complex analysis in terms understandable to the juries and the reader. At the end of the book you want more and are glad this is the first of a trilogy. A superb first book. I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read from start to finish, January 17, 2008

This review is from: Bad Intentions (Paperback)
Just finished Jack Grubbs' book, Dangerous Intentions. I like the way Jack describes both contemporary Texas and its inhabitants. He weaves details of personal lives, engineering analysis and courtroom processes in a intricate and believeable way. His descriptions of crashes involving large vehicles, cars, and human bodies should stand up as testimony in actual trials. I look forward to his next book.
