Editorial Reviews

Ray Liotta stars as Jack Malloy, a hardcore career criminal until a near-death experience causes him to turn his world around. But when his former partner Drake (Dominic Purcell of ''Prison Break'' and STRAW DOGS) is released from prison, he tracks Jack down to blackmail him into one last job. Jack is a new man determined to lead an honest life. Drake is a charming psycho intent on vengeance. Sometimes, old friends can carry some extreme baggage. And for one of them, coming to terms with the past is going to be murder. Vanessa Gray and Andy McPhee (''Sons Of Anarchy,'' WOLF CREEK) co-star in this taut action/drama about good intentions, dark secrets and the harsh consequences of BAD KARMA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant (if quick) Australian crime drama March 6, 2013
Format:DVD
"Bad Karma" (2012 release; 85 min.) is an Australian crime drama. In the introduction of the movie, set in Sydney, we see Molloy (played by Ray Liotta) and Mack (played by Dominic Purcell) living hard and getting ready for a heist. For reasons too long to explain here, Molloy at the last minute skips out from the actual heist. Mack on the other hand gets arrested and is sent to jail. Fast forward three years: Molloy is now living in beautiful Gold Coast, drug-free, working a regular job, and in a serious relationship. Then one day out of the blue Mack shows up, having been released from jail. He immediately pressures Molloy to join him in a stick-up of the local convenience store. Will Molloy give in? Can he convince Mack to leave him alone? To tel you more would ruin your viewing experience, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Couple of comments: this is a tough crime drama and several scenes may be too violent and/or too upsetting for the faint of heart, so viewer beware. Second, the performances from both Ray Liotta and Dominic Purcell are great, in particular Purcell does a remarkable job at being the "baddie". Third, the movie flies by in no time, I couldn't believe it how quickly it all ended (and that is a complement, not a complaint).

Last but certainly not least, the scenery in the movie both in Sydney and Gold Coast is outstanding. By complete coincidence I happen to see this movie on a recent trans-pacific flight from Sydney back to the States, and I couldn't help but smile when I saw all these familiar shots of Sydney. Bottom line: this movie does not pretend to be art with a capital "A", but is a solid crime drama, nothing more, nothing less.
