Book Description

5***** Review~ “The suspense story line was perfectly done. I never knew from one moment to another how the story was going to turn. It kept me guessing and COMPLETELY involved with the story. It was ALL so good...both the romance and the suspense. It was just a superbly written book. I stayed on the edge of my seat and with my nose buried in the book until I got it finished...and then I was sad that it was over.”
“You’re too stupid to live, Rafael Solis!” Chloe Palmer’s words still echoed in Rafael’s memory. The last words she said before she shot him and left town…

Unable to escape her past, Chloe returns to the Texas coast for her murdered father’s funeral and to face Rafael, the man she left behind. Rafael never gave up her.

Rafael’s passion breaks down her emotional barriers, but her impetuous nature draws her into a cruel vortex where she runs afoul of old and new enemies.

Previous rivalries emerge, pitting Rafael against the heir-apparent to a crime dynasty. With the body count rising, Rafael and Chloe battle an infatuated but vicious drug lord, kidnappers, and a twisted curandero (Mexican healer). Will they survive the violence and be able to forge a life together?

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed! March 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this story right from the beginning. Chloe caught my attention and had me cheering her on. She returns to a town where she's considered a thief - faces distain with a chip-on-her-shoulder and a lot of attitude - all to go to her murdered father's funeral. Her 3 year old daughter, Lacy, and her mother are the only people she cares about - oh yeah - and that sexy Rafael who she'd left behind seven years earlier with love for her burning in his gut and a bullet in his shoulder.

A secondary story about the Curandero keeps the tension high and the conflicts begin when Chloe goes to work in the shrimp boat her dad left her and then takes on a bar-tending job at night at the local bar where lowlifes tend to hang out. She meets up with old friends and enemies while trying to solve the mystery surrounding the death of her dad. Rafael, being the town's sheriff, takes umbrage when she gets in his way in doing his job. There's sex, jealousy, suspense, mystery, love and great writing in this story. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars ;0) March 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

Chloe is home for the funeral of her father who was murdered. While home she reconnects with Rafael, who she left seven years ago and was the town's rich boy and now the town's sheriff. Once she decides to work for the inherited shrimp boat everything starts to unfold.

This was an interesting read for me. To the reader, you would have to be a fan with the added ingredients of mystery, suspense and love to be a fan of this story. As the story starts out with the death of Chloe's father, the mystery begins. Chloe returns home to attend the funeral of her father, to a town who isn't accepting of her. When she returns, she returns with her daughter and is now staying with her mother. While at the funeral she reconnects with Rafael who is rich and is now the town's sheriff. Rafael and Chloe have a history but Rafael felt hurt when she left seven years ago.

As Rafael and Chloe's relationship progressed, the mystery and plot of the story heightens into the mystery of Chloe's father who was murdered. Things didn't get any better once she decides to the work shrimp boat that was left to her with its crew. This made my interest took off as conflict and chaos begins with the mystery of Chloe's father, who's behind everything and her relationship with Rafael.

Again, if you like to be thrilled, suspenseful and always guessing what you think will happen next you probably will like this book. I thought in the beginning Rafael and Chloe's relationship was going at full speed but later makes sense for me. I detest Rafael's sisters and thought the sub story of The Curandero was also interesting and added something to the storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Read! March 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love this story! Not only does JD Faver capture the trials and tribulations of a Romantic Suspense Reunion story, she also gives us a knockout insight of what it feels like to be aboard a shrimping vessel. Chloe Palmer is obsessed with finding her fathers killer and hunky Sheriff Rafael Solis is determined to protect her, despite her own rash and impulsive behavior. Once I started reading this, I didn't want to put it down until I finished it!

2.0 out of 5 stars C Review April 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Chloe needs to return to the town that she was raised in for her murdered father's funeral. She is now a single mom with a little girl marching into a town that considered her trash for being a lowly shrimpers daughter. Her childhood love is now the sheriff and his love never wavered. Rafael wants to prove to Chloe that he can protect her now and show her how much he has missed her over the years. But not only does Chloe have to face old enemies, she makes new ones and is thrown into a strange world of crime, drugs and a twisted Mexican Healer.

I wish I had a cohesive review of this book. I just did not enjoy it. I felt that it was choppy and want from scene to scene without emotion. I knew that the two main characters had a lot of love and it showed but there was a disconnect. There was a strange underlying tension that comes along with death in books that made it almost awkward to read. Chloe returned to her home town, went to her estranged father's funeral, left her daughter with her mother and went and had sex in the car with her former childhood sweetheart in the process of about 4 pages. Sure, car sex is hot and we all know that sometimes when faced with extreme situations your judgement is always a bit skewed but, this just seemed rushed. She moved in with Raphael because of the danger of people being after her because of her father and poking around with who killed him. It seemed like he was head over heels in love with her and she loved him but it felt rushed and not all the way believable.

His family had always treated Chloe really horridly and he always stuck up for her, throwing out his sister when she was rude, telling his family that he was choosing her and that was it. And that was commendable but, again, it felt forced. It felt almost too good to be real.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating read. April 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story will make you believe in second chances. I found the characters very interesting. The storyline of the bad guy's heritage was very impressive, and fascinating. Well done. The leading man Rafael is what every heterosexual girl dreams of, and the leading lady Chloe is feisty and not your average primadona. The couple is very complementary and their storyline is believable. I found this book too interesting to put down, and the pace was just right. Highly recommended.
