More About the Author

Bob Boze Bell, as he's called in his hometown (Kingman, Arizona), has published
seven colorful and groundbreaking books on the West, with virtually all
of them in multiple printings. Among the subjects-Wyatt Earp, Billy the
Kid, Doc Holliday and his latest, a compilation of Classic Gunfights,
Volume III, which came out in summer 2007.

In 1999, Bell, along with two other passionate Old West friends, bought
True West magazine and moved the editorial offices to Cave Creek, AZ.
The magazine, published since 1953, continues to grow and features the
distinctive style of Bell's creative vision.

In addition to his efforts for True West, Boze's work has appeared in
Arizona Highways, Playboy and National Lampoon. His artwork is featured
on numerous book covers, and he appears often on the History Channel,
Discovery Channel and the Westerns Channel (True West Moments), where
his historical expertise and art are often featured.

With several new books in the works and an aggressive expansion of the
magazine, Boze shows no sign of slowing down. "I'm having too much fun," he says, hard at work on a Sunday afternoon. "Work is only work if you'd rather be someplace else. And I'm right where I want to be."

3.0 out of 5 stars Well illustrated, interesting but disappointing, September 18, 2000

This review is from: Bad Men: Outlaws & Gunfighters of the Wild West (Paperback)
Similar to Bell's other books, the format of this book is a chronological listing of events in the old west. In this case they are events about outlaws. This style of writing makes it easy to read from start to finish or allows one to jump around from section to section without missing anything. While I like this format in some ways, I wish the book had more "meat" to it. The information is often nothing more than a date and a one or two sentence description of the event that occured on that date. I would have enjoyed the book much more, a learned more, had the author chosen to provide more in depth information.

In addition to the text, the book contain numerous photos and drawings. From a design standpoint it is very well done.

If you're fan of the old west and would like a good resource on the dates of various events then you will appreciate this book. If you are not that familiar with this era, and want to learn more, then this book may disappoint you.
