Please people. If you are going to take the time to write a book and have it published, find an editor. Or go to the local high school and have an English teacher proof read it. Do something. The story itself wasn't too bad but the grammatical mistakes and misspellings really brought it down for me. It was all over the place for me. There were a couple of places I skimmed over the story because it seemed to drag on. Other parts I just couldn't put it down and wanted to find out what was going to happen next.

Bad Editing on a pretty good book,

I enjoyed the character study of the central characters in the book. The author was able to show depth and some very suspenseful scenes. I really got bogged down, though, by words that didn't belong there due to sloppy editing. It was like becoming engrossed in a film only to have the reel repeated break and distroy the continuity. Also, the book was written in a limited third person point of view with characters changing from chapter to chapter. This worked well until the author couldn't resist jumping into the story here and there with an omnicient observation. I was torn between a two or a three star rating. I went for the three because it was a good story.

Where was the editor?,

As the book jacket indicates, "it starts with a murder" -- and the reader learns "who done it" within the first few pages. This novel is all about the development of its characters and the complex relationships among them. The author's describing situations through each participant's point of view is an effective tool in achieving this goal and in keeping the reader's interest. These accomplisments would certainly draw me to read this author's other works. However, countless grammatical and spelling errors are a hugh distraction and eventually a real turn-off. Obviously, basic editing was not employed. At best, the work comes off amateurish; at worse, the author comes off disdainful toward his readers. Bad People
