5.0 out of 5 stars almost perfect, October 23, 2009

This book was great, very funny and thought-provoking. I stood in the library aisle giggling and I think I was getting some funny looks from other patrons. :)

I have only one issue with it. I realize that not eveyone can be a Barry Manilow fan like me (ever since 1996 when I was sixteen), but everyone who dissects his music seems to make one error in common. Calling the title "I Write the Songs" a misnomer because he didn't actually write that song is incorrect and missing the whole message of the song. He is not singing, "I, Barry, write the songs." He is saying, "I, music, write the songs." He is using a literary device called personification to say some things about music in general. Heaven knows that Barry has been around a long time :), but I don't think anyone could say that he's been alive literally "forever," as the first phrase of the song goes. Music has been alive forever. Music wrote the very first song. Music has its own place in our souls. See what I'm saying? Hopefully I'm making sense.

Anywho, though, a delightful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Welcome to the pinnacle of lose-lose decision making.", November 20, 2007

This review is from: Bad vs. Worse: The Ultimate Guide to Making Lose-Lose Decisions (Paperback)
Joshua Paven, the author of The Worst Case Scenario, presents readers with an agonizing selection of awful, disgusting and awfully disgusting choices to make in life situations. (Hopefully, not your life or mine!)

Ponder, if you would, the following: Which would be worse to notice on your dentist's hand, flesh-eating bacteria or leprosy? Who would you rather listen to nonstop on a fifteen hour road trip, Barry Manilow or Neil Diamond? Which would be worse, an appendicitis or an audit? Who would you rather have as a camp counselor, Dick Cheney or Osama Ben Laden?

Buy this book and you'll be sure to make these horrible decisions and worse in a responsible and informed manner.
