5.0 out of 5 stars Knowing the "real" ending makes this all the more chilling., May 3, 2004
This review is from: Badenheim 1939 (B.G. Rudolph Lectures in Judaic Studies) (Paperback)
A beautifully crafted, chilling novel that casts its shadow forward to 21st century America. One is reminded of Hannah Arendt, "the banality of evil." A must read, which I would like to see included in high school history programs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, October 8, 2011

This review is from: Badenheim 1939 (B.G. Rudolph Lectures in Judaic Studies) (Paperback)
An amazing book by an author who should be much more widely read. I would read anything that Appelfeld wrote -- his sensitivity combined with his clean (not overwraught) expression make him a pleasure to read.
