5.0 out of 5 stars Great Badfinger Album
I don't know what the people doing a few of the reviews on the sidebar here are talking about. I just listened to the Amazon samples and this IS the original band, not re-recordings. There are a couple of CDs out that are just later recordings by some other version of Badifinger and you should avoid those as they are pale imitations of the original band.

Well... These are Badfinger songs. But the Badfinger Band, it Ain't! Yes, I will be sure to listen to the samples next time. 3 stars for the music, 0 stars for Amazon, for the misrepresentation.

As a side note: There seems to be reviews of 2 different albums under this item. One is for the original 1974 Badfinger, Badfinger album and the other is songs...

On the other hand, I don't know why this album isn't liked that much by some fans. I have everything Badfinger did and this stacks up well. It rocks out, has great vocals, and great rock and roll playing and production. Listen to the whole album start to finish and if you like Badfinger and what they did, you will like this and have more than a few "wow..this is great" moments in it. Well worth the purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Is NOT BADFINGER...It's Joey Molland's Badfinger!!! Buyer Beware!, June 9, 2011

For any who are confused, this review is NOT about the self titled Badfinger album from Warner Bros. That is actually a good album and features all of the original members, since it was recorded circa 1974. But this self titled Badfinger was released in 2009 on the Suite 102 label. For god's sake, avoid this one at all costs. I should have listened to the music samples before buying this. I thought I was getting a greatest hits package and instead, it's just Joey Molland and whoever else is playing in his pick up band at the time. This is like listening to Foghat without Lonesome Dave, Rod Price, & Tony Stevens. Just because the drummer, Roger Earl, is still playing, doesn't mean it's Foghat. When there's only one member, & not a founding member at that, in the band, how can it be called Badfinger? These songs are poorly recorded, in completely different keys, and different speeds than the originals. This is an extrememly LAME effort and should be avoided by anyone who loved the original Badfinger.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not original, February 28, 2010

Felt stupid by not reading the other reviews before purchasing. It should really be labeled correctly as not original versions. I personally like the original versions better.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars for Badfinger's 1974 eponomously titled LP, November 10, 2007
This review is from: Badfinger (Audio CD)
Great CD reissue of this great album by the most underrated rock band of all time. Collector's Choice should be applauded for reissuing this. The sound is very strong. Not overlycompressed, yet not muddy either. To my ears, it sounds very, very close to the LP mix, maybe just a pinch cleaner. The CD artwork book is only four pages (including the CD front cover and back cover) and includes two pages' worth of liner notes. Definitely worth picking up, along with Badfinger "Wish You Were Here," reissued the same day as this, also by Collector's Choice Music. Badfinger fans should be esctatic that these are finally in print in the U.S. (and very affordable!) Thanks CCM!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem by rock's most unsung group, November 12, 2010
This review is from: Badfinger (Audio CD)
I always liked this album. In fact, other than "Wish You Were Here," it's the Badfinger LP I listen to the most--even more than "Straight Up" and "No Dice." That's not to say that the group's Warner Brothers debut is as good as those albums--it is not. However, it is a superbly crafted effort, and in this day and age would probably be hailed as a pop masterpiece.

"Badfinger" is where Pete Ham gets his mojo back as a songwriter. He contributes four excellent songs (the heart-on-a-sleeve brilliance of "I Miss You," "Song for a Lost Friend," the comical "Matted Spam," and the touchingly catchy "Lonely You." He also cowrites two terrific efforts with Tom Evans, the should-been monster hit "Shine On" and "Why Don't We Talk." The band's third major songwriter, Joey Molland, chips in with another coulda-been, "Love Is Easy," "Give It Up," and the absolutely blazing finale, "Andy Norris."

A perfect storm of bad luck, record company incompetence, and poor decisions--the band started recording the LP before their final Apple album, "Ass," had even been released-- conspired to sink "Badfinger" before it even had a chance. Warner Brothers was not happy with its chart performance, and trouble was on the horizon. In two years, their stint with the label would be over and their heart and soul, Pete Ham, would be dead.

For some unknown reason, "Badfinger" is frequently given short shrift by critics. I'm not sure why. It's chocked full of incredibly tuneful, well crafted songs played masterfully. It deserved far better than the fate it received. Collector's Choice should be praised for making this unsung classic widely available again. The remastering is superb--it blows the doors off the import that came out years ago--and the liner notes by Richie Unterberger are informative and well written.

Even if you're not necessarily a Badfinger fan, the group's Warners debut definitely deserves your attention. It is a rock album par excellence and a shining moment in the band's canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Badfinger (Audio CD)
I don't really have much to write, but i would have to say that aside from Badfinger's "Straight Up" Lp, this is by far my second favorite..a well crafted and very underrated album...if you're a fan of Badfinger, then i highly recommend this one...and "straight up" too..if you don't have it...no flaw in either one of them....both masterpiece albums.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This, December 9, 2009
This review is from: Badfinger (MP3 Download)
This album consists of re-recorded versions of these tracks recorded by Badfinger guitarist (and only surviving member)Joey Molland and whoever was in the pick-up band he was calling Badfinger at the time. While Badfinger's first four albums ("Magic Christian Music,""No Dice,""Straight Up," and "Ass" are available on CD, since they are Apple Records recordings, you won't find them for digital download, yet. Even so, stay away from this stinker which is clearly an opportunity to raise some cash at the expense of three dead musicians.

This is not Pete Ham and crew. This is not Badfinger. I want my money back. It should probably be entitled Badfinger Songs or something.
