This simple little gadget turns out to be a real time saver for the hobbyist and artist. Running off two AA batteries, the powerful small motor is housed in a durable and comfortably sized handle. In operation, the metal shaft and mixing head quickly and thoroughly mix solvent and pigment in even small paint jars. So long as you are careful to completely submerge the mix head before applying power, there should be no problem with splash or spray. It cleans with a simple rinse. Incidentally, VitaMinder uses the same motor housing, with a nylon whisk, and markets it as its Drink Mixer (reviewed elsewhere). A rugged and completely functional small tool, this Badger device is much less expensive, simpler, more reliable and time efficient than the Robart Paint Shaker. Once you've used it, it becomes indispensable.

I purchased this mixer after borrowing a similar one from a fellow airbrush artist. His version spun slower though allowing to mix paint nicely in 1oz cups. this model, or at least the one I received spins way to fast for a 1oz cup and causes messy situations. I've been trying to slow it down but haven't succeeded, I guess I'll have to wait for the batteries to die down.

I have only used this a dozen times or so. It's extremely easy to use, just be careful to start with it against the side of your mixing cup so it doesn't spray everywhere. It is pretty powerful so like I said be careful. It's a breeze to clean. I run it under water and turn it on...Walla! The plastic feels a little cheap so it lost about a half a star, but mine is still working even after I dropped it when cleaning it so I guess it's not too terrible. Hope this helps with your decision.

This is a great item. I recently got back into Model Railroading, and have lots of old model paint, some that has not been used in 10 years. Saw this on amazon and thought it would be nice to have. It works great, and has rejuvenated model paint that has not been used in years. Does a great job, just don't remove it while the motor is still running :-)

This was an outstanding and rewarding purchase. I use Testor's Model Master Acryls in the 1/2oz. bottles. Mixing my hobby paints is far easier and quicker now. Also, I now firmly believe that it is impossible to properly hand mix hobby paints, especially these flats and acryls. I was weary about whether or not this would work with the 1/2oz. glass bottles without creating a huge mess of expensive paint but I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used the mixer. I put the head into the bottle until it touches the bottom and then stir for about 30 seconds to 1 minute while gently moving the mixer up and down and scraping the bottom. Airbrushing is smoother now and I get more color saturation with fewer coats. A+++!P.S. - To clean I keep some Windex (or whatever the correct solvent is for the application) in a styrofoam cup. After letting the excess paint run off into the paint jar I insert the mixer into the windex, give it a couple of quick spins, wipe with a paper towel, and voila...perfectly clean and ready to mix again! |
