3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely but Ineffective
I've been getting migraines for years, and recently I found a prescription nasal spray that really truly works for my major headaches (the "I can't imagine any worse pain, can barely see, can't tolerate sound or scent, and wind up in the hospital, dehydrated from retching" ones) but the spray gives me all kinds of side effects also. Now, a full-on migraine is definitely...

I've been using Badger products for years, and I have hoped that they would make a balm like this for some time. I'm a chronic migraine sufferer; I get migraines 3 or more times per week. As an adjunct to my drug therapy, this stuff works beautifully, helping me to relax a bit while I wait for my medication to take effect. The peppermint/lavender scent actually lessens my nausea. Rubbing the product into my temples seems to have some effect on the pain as well. Don't get me wrong: I don't think this product on its own would get rid of one of my migraines. But having this simple product handy when I am suffering so badly does help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely soothing, January 16, 2010

This is particularly helpful for the nausea that so often accompanies a migraine but I find it soothing for any type of headache or stomach upset. I sent a couple tins to my grade-school aged niece and her mother was most excited to find something safe and natural to help with migraine symptoms.

Now, a full-on migraine is definitely bad enough that I want relief at any cost, so I use my prescription. However, I also suffer from tension headaches or "mini-migraines" that can knock me out for a day or three but don't make me want to die. I bought the Badger Balm Headache Soother looking for help with those mini-headaches, for which I'd already been using OTC painkillers and cold compresses.

I love that the Balm is organic. I love the scent, which is light enough that it usually doesn't turn my stomach. It's a blend of lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, mandarin and sandalwood; really soothing (hence the name, I suppose). There's menthol in the mix too, not enough to give much scent, but also not enough to provide any sort of distracting, cooling sensation as promised. The texture of the balm is nice and smooth, not too firm to apply but without a thick, greasy feeling either. It's a really nice product for aromatherapy and relaxation, but it doesn't do a thing for my headaches.

If you're looking for headache relief, I'd suggest HeadOn - Apply Directly to Forehead Migraine Relief .2 oz (5.67 g) instead. It's fragrance-free and provides the distracting, menthol cooling sensation I was hoping to find in this Headache Soother. However, if you're just looking for a nicely scented, organic balm for relaxation, this is perfect. I'll probably buy it again, just not for its stated use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great scent, February 12, 2011
This review is from: Badger Organic Headache Soother -- 1 oz (Health and Beauty)
I've used lavender and peppermint for a while now to ease my migrains so I was so happy to see it together in a balm. It smells great, is easy to throw in your purse and take with you, and it eases a headache with the help of other remedies. The only drawback that I found is the product scent isn't as strong as I'd like and it fades relatively fast therefore not as effective as I'd like. When I make my own aromatherapy at home I prefer the lavender and peppermint a little stronger and the scent to last a little longer, but I understand that it could be too much for some people; this is good on the go or in a pinch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great smell, but not so great on headaches, October 18, 2011

I get pretty bad headaches year round, so I decided to try this out in conjunction with my pain medication. The smell is absolutely wonderful, and the formula is smooth but not greasy. It works great for a bit of tension, I like to rub it on my stiff neck and around my temples, but it doesn't do a thing for my headaches. The smell fades pretty quickly too. I'd recommend it for a bit of stress relief, but for headaches I'd go with HeadOn - Apply Directly to Forehead Migraine Relief .2 oz (5.67 g).

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't notice any difference, September 8, 2011

Can't say that it made any difference. Maybe some people would be more sensitive to the effects of the item.
