Book Description

Poyser Natural History February 26, 1996
In the past decade, there have been considerable advances in the understanding of badgers, particularly the social behavior, ecology, and population dynamics of the European species. Badgers synthesizes the extensive knowledge which now exists, and makes available to naturalists, conservationists, professional scientists, and the general reader what has previously only been available from scientific papers. It provides an up-to-date, easy-to-read understanding of these fascinating animals and includes a final chapter on other species of badgers worldwide. In addition, a number of new illustrations have been incorporated, many in color, as well as more useful tables and new artwork which was specially commissioned.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Cheeseman brings to the publication the results of much of his research over the past 20 years or so..."
--Michael Woods in NATURAL WORLD
"This new book is a major revision which aims to synthesise the extensive knowledge which now exists, and make available to naturalist, conservationist, professional scientists and the general reader what has previously only been available from scientific papers both at home and abroad."
--ETHOLOGY, ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTION 1997
"A remarkably readable volume... it covers every aspect of badger natural history, ranging from the badger's structured social life, right through to longevity and causes of death. A tremendous amount of anecdotal detail brings the badger to life, and does much to produce a rounded portrait of this interesting and likeable animal. It is certain to inspire people to take up badger watching, and contains detailed guidance for first-time badger watchers... Like all the books in the Poyser Natural History series, Badgers is attractively produced, and its appeal is enhanced by John Davis's outstanding line drawings."
--David Tomlinson in COUNTRY LIFE

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book by the world expert on badgers!, September 21, 2003

This review is from: Badgers (Poyser Natural History) (Hardcover)
With all the "politics" about badgers in the UK, it is not easy to get unbiased information. This book provides a wealth of factually-accurate data, and lots of illuminating anecdotes about many many years of badger watching. Whilst it 'aint the cheapest badger book, do not be deterred by the price; as it is absolutely worth every single cent!
Truly the best book about badgers. It combines in-depth factual information with the authors experience and many illuminating anecdotes about badgers and their nocturnal behaviour. It is a book that every-one who studies or deals with badgers should read from cover to cover, and keep on their shelf for reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teaches you a lot about badgers, April 5, 2006
A Kid's Review
I bought " Badgers" as a gift for my toy badger. She's called Deanna and she looks like a real badger. And I have watched " Wildlife SOS" on Animal Planet and they had to put to sleep the badger called Ci Ty. Otherwise, cool magazine.
