There are wonderful badges from all over America to be discovered in this book, the major cities of the east coast, and moving west to California, Hawaii and north to Alaska. From the simple tin star to the elegant solid gold presentation badge, this pictorial book presents over 500 images of badges ranging from the basic to the grandest solid gold and sterling. In many cases their hand engraving is unique, the exceptional qualities are apparent at first glance. Others are very basic and plain in design. This book s large format presents most of these badges in exquisite close-ups. Immerse yourself in the fantastic world of America s Finest police badges. Collectors, historians and the public from all over the world have been fascinated with images of early lawmen, identified not by uniform, but by the badge pinned to their chest and will find in this volume a fascinating photographic history, as well as a price and reference guide.

I have recently had the pleasure of viewing Jim Casey's latest book, "Badges of America's Finest," and I can honestly tell you that it is very impressive. It is a must have for the serious collector as well as the casual admirer. The photographs are of such great quality as to jump off the page. This book will be a beautiful addition to any coffee table, leading to many hours of enjoyment. --Roland Engle

About the Author

James Casey has been collecting and researching police memorabilia for nearly 30 years. As a child he was fascinated by his grandfather s badge and duty belt. Following in his grandfather s footsteps Jim would wear his own badge as a police officer, detective and police chief. In an effort to share his passion for the history of law enforcement, especially the badge, Jim set up a mobile police museum display in the 1980 s that he has shown from coast to coast at schools, service clubs, collector shows and law enforcement open house events. He also publishes a web site, policeguide.com and published a travel guide to police and fire museums. He has served as the department historian for both police and sheriff s offices and continues to collect and research badges.

This is a wonderfully illustrated book. For those of us who like to see badges, but could never afford to actually own them, this book will give you almost the same pleasure. It would have been nice to see more from the eastern United States, but it did not deter me from enjoying the author's presentation.

As a badge collector, I found this book enjoyable to read with plenty of photos. There are not alot of books are there for badge collectors, so I did not hesitate to purchase this one. Hardcover and detailed photos. If you collect law enforcement badges, you need this book in your library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Police Badge Book Review, January 16, 2009
By
This review is from: Badges of America's Finest: A Pictorial Guide to the Badges of American Lawmen and Price Guide (Library Binding)
This item is a really nice coffee table book. It contains very impressive photos of some rare badges and police photos. It also has a few game warden badges. It is organized by state and ends with federal badges. It does not have very many badges however, and the ones it does have are for the VERY serious collector as almost all are between $1000 to over $10,000. It also, unfortunately, doesn't contain fake or replica badge spotting information either. It is not a book for those who are trying to get the price of a badge that you found in an antique shop or on ebay. These types of badges are already in the hands of wealthy collectors and are traded and sold at very select venues. If you are an amature collector and want to dream about being one of the big boys or if you actually are one of the big boys then this book is for you. If not, then you may want to pass this up and use your money for a little higher priced badge to add to your collection.
