Grade 3-5-- Supplemental social studies materials. Badlands gives its historical significance, flora and fauna, and places of interest for tourists. Plymouth describes the Pilgrims' decision to come to the New World, their struggles to establish a settlement, and the first Thanksgiving. The text is livelier than in the other titles, making the Pilgrims' plight quite realistic. Unfortunately, the photos of the wax-museum replicas are less than successful. St. Augustine traces the history of America's oldest city from its establishment to the present day. All three titles are easy to read with large, clear print. The full-color photographs, however, are often too dark, too small, or poorly placed. Only St. Augustine contains a map, and readers will need a magnifying glass to use it. --Eowana Bradley Jordan, Westgate Elem . School, Manassas, VA
