This review is from: Badlands (Audio CD)
My friend and I used to bump this cd when we were back in High school. I stumbled across it yesterday at Rasputin Records and picked it up for $2. Papa Chuk is from Texas, but unlike other emcees who have hailed from the southern state, Papa Chuk has a distinctive East Coast sound reminiscent of a bugged out Redman or better yet King Just. The beats on this album are handled by an unknown producer who does a good job incorporating jazzy loops, low bass lines, and hard hitting drums. Papa Chuck's album is great trunk music, pretty much every track has knock. There are a few guest emcee appearances and occasionally Mr. Chuk flips a decent reggae style. Overall I give Papa Chuk's BadLands a 3 star rating. If you dig this then you may like fellow Texans Mad Flava, who in my opinion offer up a better effort.kOsTyle |
