I saw Willie "Big Eyes" Smith in a room where the audience totaled two people (four if you count the bartender and waitress.) He played two long sets, indulged most of our increasingly drunken requests, and patiently answered our questions during the set break. This album is meat-n-potatoes Chicago blues like they used to make when drummers knew how to play a shuffle and 4 minute songs weren't loaded with 3 minutes and forty-five seconds of frenetic guitar work. Recommended.

I bought this CD just because I kept looking at it. I didn't really know what to expect, I'm not yet well versed in blues.
Another review said it's good Chicago Blues - that's right, in fact I have heard some of the people on this album live, as part of Mighty Blue Kings! Here's everyone credited (MBK or not): Willie Smith, Jimmy Sutton, Gareth Best, James Wheeler, Nick Moss, Ross Bon*, Kim Wilson, Pinetop Perkins (*on Harmonica not vocals) Very cool, and if you like Mighty Blue Kings I'd expect you'd like this sound too. |
